Again, had he performed well during his stint a MSU maybe I would think different. However, having to go to Oregon and finding motivation to lose weight, that’s telling. Maybe I take a chance in the 3rd rd but not 1 and 2
Well that’s fair but not 100% certain to be true. It depends on what the coaches asked of him. For instance the NC State coaches asked Alim to put on weight to play more of a true nose. We clearly didn’t hold it against him. The interviews matter, and we’re not privy to them.
Bro I think your missing it with this one, dude has size , is versatile can take on double teams plays both run and pass well, he is on that list of top 10 DL in pressures . You made alot of assumptions to not like the guy. Dude is never going to be there in our 2nd or 3rd. He might have less Questions then Grant right now.
When he was at MSU he needed to be more consistent. The talent was there but it was only in flashes. I only get turned off by players that seem to consistently give the vibe that they are not that into football. I keep a very open mind to the idea that players will improve with time. And that sometimes a player needs a change of scenery to get over that hump. Hearing another set of coaches tell you what needs to happen is often all a player needs.
What I somewhat question is his upside. For me he is more of a late 2nd 3rd round dude. I do not see the ceiling with him. But again things can change. But when he was at MSU he was not a game changer. And if you can not dominate at times in college…well I am not sure I see how it will happen in the NFL.
Listen I watched Hutch since he was a Frosh in HS. No one would have suggested he would someday start a season in the NFL and look like the DPOY. Like he looked pretty shaky to even play D1 football. So kids develop. And big bodies take even longer. Long levers take way more time to learn how to get all the parts and pieces in place at the right time and such. So projecting big bodied kids is such a difficult job. Even after 4 years of college. They keep growing plus the coaching can be a big deal.
Again, I watched this cat a MSU. The motivation wasn’t there and he was fat. Why? I’m not sure. Yes, he went to Oregon and got motivated but this is telling for me. I personally wouldn’t touch him or Walker until the 3rd. Let some other team take a chance.
PS TC I agree with you most of the time but not this one my bro
I am hoping Walter Nolan drops to us. Or James Pearce Jr. Both of them have All Pro potential IMO. Doubt either falls to us. I might be open to an offensive lineman if he was the best player on the board. Guys like Tyler Booker, Donovan Jackson, and Josh Conerly Jr intrigue me.
It’s cool bro, I get the whole MSU stances. You going by what you seen, I’m going by this year and what I seen. You may be right. Me I really like the guy, and part because of that pressure list. I mean he was top 10 of all DLimeman not just DTs. Maybe I put to much stock in that. That’s why I like hearing what others think they see things I might not.
I think it’s completely fair to judge his character from his days at MSU, but I’d be careful about jumping to assumptions about it. IF we find out he was lazy, then so be it, he won’t be on our board.
However…
…I don’t think it’s fair to judge his play there, since he’s become a totally different guy. The short area juice he has now is really, really impressive, just watched the way he exploded on Chiles to sack him. You could tell Chiles didn’t think he was gonna be able to do that. Game changing plays are all over his MSU tape. I mean this is one of the better highlights any draft prospect has (3rd video), and look at the way he closed on Edwards:
The guy made a lot of plays this past year at Oregon, and like @Tcmouse said led the country in pressures for a DT
Also I guess I’m looking for that guy that can play in Big Macs Spot and also be a guy that can play beside him when he is back. He can play up and down the line. We don’t need just a 3t because we just paid Mac.
Kid has a lot potential. Plus i think he is pretty good on the running game. Big guy who can fill for reader in the future. Dt is lacking depth with McNeil out, need a dt bad. Plus as someone else said alfred Collins is up on my list as well
I mean my only concern was how he turned it around so hard. It almost feels like he was on a prove it deal.
But he had that size and step now so I am all in. The real question might be is if he did well because he put distance between himself and his hometown Detroit? As someone else noted, this can also be an issue for some young men. All his best influences are in Detroit but sadly all the bad ones are there also.
Yeah I get that, but it’s just an assumption right now. And there’s been nothing out of Eugene about any character issues, they all say he’s a good kid and hard worker, at least publicly. But usually when it’s not true you start to hear whispers, but I haven’t heard a single one. Except from @Martymcfly2017 but he won’t say why.
I think I’m gonna be lower on him than anyone else. Watch his highlights and he looks like Aaron Donald 2.0, but watch full games and he looks a lot worse. He’s got some of the worst eyes I’ve ever seen on a DT, reminds me of Mazi Smith that way. Which is why he completely disappears some games.
Is he strong enough against the run? Or are you thinking for SAM? In which case how is he at the LB aspects of the position? I didn’t see many reps where he was used the way we ask our SAMs to play.
Tons of reasons. Kid was low rated coming out of high school. Then the kid by his jr and sr season kept teasing msu. Kid enter the portal msu gave him tons more money to stay, then he excepts the deal too msu, but here comes the spring game oh guess what here comes Oregon to offer him more money. Kid is about him and only him. Same as keon Coleman, who btw had better stats at msu then fsu besides tds. Just like i wouldn’t touch will Johnson, talent but he gave up on his team. Thats just my opinion, no need for a debate.
