Didn’t see him mentioned but JJ Watt was insane for a few years before the injuries derailed his career. He was unblockable early in his career. Multiple 20 sack seasons and just swatting every pass down. Early Watt was something. Won defensive player of the year 3 times in his first 5 seasons

Jonathon Odgen used to just flick DE’s like they were nothing. I remember seeing him bully Dwight Freeny like he was a child.

So here is one of the things about this discussion.
You can have both Earl Campbell and Barry.
The thing about the NFL is that it has been evolving. So you can have a RB from the 70s 80s 90s etc. During their time they could have redefined the position.
Marino is kind of a great example. In today’s NFL would he be called Pad Statford?? He is an all timer for sure. But pulled into today’s NFL and I am not sure he would be considered anything special.

Devin Hester is another really good pick. There is nobody close to Hester as a return man. And since the NFL killed the return man, it looks like there never will be.

Good call on Hester. How many years before special teams don’t even exist? I’d say 10 to 15 years. We are massively heading in that direction.
