Thank you for the comparison to Urlacher, this is also who I liken him to and why I was so excited when the Lions drafted him.
My only gripe with Campbell, why did it take you until year three to play like an All-Pro! I thought he would play like one year 1 or 2, whoops I was wrong on that

Not including LBers that are primarily edge rushers, what team has a better LBer group than us? We easily have the best safety duo in the league.
How many teams have better interior defensive lineman than us once Alim is back?
I thought we had one of the deepest CB groups in the league before all the injuries. This team is stacked everywhere.
Right here! I’m impressed with him and his ability. I was very very nervous about him and his potential the first two seasons. And after his first couple years I was nervous that his coverage skills weren’t going to fully translate Esp after the first game at green bay. And I was afraid that we’d always be yearning for someone a bit more shiftier. But he’s balling out and won me over. super impressive. I was wrong about him.
I think what we are keep under estimating is how well MCDC teaches players. And yes it is his coaches but we are now on basically a 2nd cycle with an almost all new staff and the train keeps going down the tracks. That is what a program looks like. We now have a culture and we will never be able to go back. At least not us fans.
It is impressive and I have even heard talking heads discuss this teaching trait of the Lions and also how they truly have a plan for everyone up front. And that is why they can still play so well and take the next man up approach.

Shep has Analzone playing like a 30-year-old again.

The defense has seemed very connected.
I know we will all credit Shep and yes of course he has been scheming it very well. But the Lions also have some very good players that have experience. So the soup has been simmering for a few years and is now starting to peak.
It is impressive. High level defenses are fun to watch. Mostly because they somehow transition from reacting to what the offense does to dictating what the offense tries to do. It is an interesting dynamic. Which I do agree it starts up front with being able to shut down the run. That is and will always be the first step. What is different this year is that they seem to be flowing better into pass defense and as we have all seen the LBs are all over the place.
Shep has impressed me big time. Dude is playing chess out there. Week 1 he got punked a bit but he has adjusted and clearly learning and teaching.
The reality is that to get a top 5 defense or dare I say best in the NFL the players must be adjusting on the fly and understand how to hide coverages and be able to confuse the QB. That fly route Love hit the first game was all about Green Bay knowing what we were doing and calling a play to expose that coverage. It was a huge scheme mistake and not a player mistake. Shep seems to have learned that you have to be tricky also 
Brad once answered a question about replacing a coach by saying that Dan knows coaches like Brad knows players in the draft. Dan is very well connected around the league.
