I donât know much about him, but his dad was damn good. Send to be athletic and has power potential. Kid is huge so who knows where he plays, but with Matt as his dad I wouldnât bet against him.
I watched a highlight video of him and immediately thought he has zero chance of playing SS in the pros. Teams are going to want him max out his frame for hitting⌠which like you mention⌠means he is destined for 3B, 1st base, LF, or RF.
I was freaking small in HS. 5â1 as a freshman. So no dongers or women for that matter lol. I slowly grew to 5â10 my senior yr and then grew 4 inches after graduation which created the sexay bitch you are all lucky to knowđ
They kind of are, but SS is the best athlete usually, and teams routinely move drafted and MiLB guys off SS to CF, 2B and 3B based on size, athleticism, arm and need.
McGongleâs size profiles him more as a 2b, really. Arm too. Bryce Rainier is a prototypical big but athletic SS with a cannon and power bat. Pending his shoulder injury, he probably sticks.
Jackson Merrill (SDP) moved off SS to CF as a rookie last year, played amazing. ONeill Cruz (PIT) moved off SS because he is so damn big (6â7""), but he has a freaking howitzerâŚ
105mph from CF where he moved to, but his D there is kind of ass.
Konnor Griffin is a strong safety playing SS for PIT High A and to me probably ends up at 3B, given he is 19 and already 6â4" 225 and steals 40 bags a year with gigantic power. Thats Manny Machado level stuff, who started at SS in BLT at 20 or 21 too before moving to 3B like his 3rd year
Literally happens up and down the league and minors all the time.
HS SS can transition to other positions all over the field. Plus the Tigers, under this regime, have shown a willingness to let the prospects improve and not rush them.
So HS SS could go to 2nd, third or OF and simply stay at SS, beefing up a the SS position isnât the worst thing.
They have McGonigle who may profile better at 2nd than SS and Rainer. Rainer is out this season due to a shoulder injury which means you donât how well he will recover.
I did pitch in High School when I wasnât playing 1st. Pitching is truly one of the most fun sporting positions out there as a teeanger. I loved hitting but pitching might have even been more fun if you have a good defense behind you that is
The only pitching i did was in slow pitch softball when I moved to Florida. Two months later I moved to second or third for the rest of my FL softball career.
Facing former minor league players was enough for me, one line drive up the middle about killed me. Then watching my B-i-l pitch against Jose and Ozzie Canseco along with Ricky Henderson confirmed it was the right decision.
Heâd pitch to them and then trot/run bacwards in case of a line drive coming at his head. He played on the summer circuits on some amazing teams, I occasionally filled in extremely nervous when I did. Some of the best softball times ever, as long as I wasnât pitching
Tatis Jr., Jazz Chisholm both moved to the OF (and Jazz then to 2b, then 3rd, then 2ndâŚ) from SS.
Boegarts moved to 2b from SS when cane to SDP from BOS.
San Diego has more guys in their lineup that started at SS or 2b and moved off when in the majors than they have guys that havenât. (Merrill Machado, Tatis, Bogaerts, Cronenworth, Arraez)
