Wojo: How Dan Campbell unlocked Lions’ secret sauce for success

Three hurries against the Ravens. In on a sack. Also forced a fumble on one of the last games. I posted that highlight the last time you were claiming he had no impact

Just because the Lions didn’t pick him up doesn’t mean he isn’t having a positive impact for the Niners. Dude has the 7th best Pass Rush win rate in the NFL. Demands attention on the line and is costing them half a mill. And a late third round pick

One hurry on PFR

We all watched the Ravens game. I don’t think one single poster in that thread was like, “wow, look at Chase Young really impacting this game.”

Iffy.

It’s almost like we added an all-pro safety to the roster 3 weeks ago.

Iffy, Duece, and Houston is a lot of awesome to add to a defense. Could be that our D is pretty damn good once the playoffs roll around.

And we’re not short pressures. We’re 3rd in the league in pressure rate. I don’t get how replacing Commish, Paschal and Romeo edge pressures with Chase Young pressures moves the needle. Bc that would be what we’d be doing.

Now maybe Young turns it on. In the games I’ve watched Young has been fine but by no means especially impactful.

49ers have more more talent at all 3 levels of the defrnse…

so stats don’t really tell any difference.

OTOH…. why isn’t Chase Young having more of an impact when he has so much talent surrounding him?

Dude is barely averaging a pressure and tackle per game since joining a top notch defense.

I think we watched the Ravens game and thought ‘Holy hell Lamar is a monster’

But that doesn’t prove your case to me in the slightest that we shouldn’t have picked him up

You’re not right

You know what might help convert some of our pressures to sacks? Having a better DE taking attention from Hutch

that’s Rocket surgery

I mean his first three games he posted 1.5 sacks, three tackles, one tackle for loss and three quarterback hits.

While working into the rotation and learning the scheme

There you go again again.

see ball… get ball.
Scheme learned.

You mean the one that has been on a per snap basis far less impactful as a pass rusher than Romeo Okwara?

But fall back to Chase Young and Nick Bosa testimonials. I’m not
sure what you expect them to say.

Just saying. It’s an opinion. IMO You’re not right. I don’t care if you’re simply deferring to Holmes. I’m saying you’re not right.

Bearing in mind. My stance is an opinion too. I’m not right either. But I believe I am. That’s how opinions work

I haven’t looked up the PFF grades but I’d be willing to bet Young has scored much higher for the last four games than Romeo Okwara while playing more meaningful snaps. Even with Okwara getting a 90 against the Vikings

Shall we bet something non-monetary?

Pff actually loves Romeo. He’s got an 80 overall.

But lets keep in mind he only plays like 10 snaps per game

I agree though we really need pass rush opposite Hutch. Just look at the attention offenses spend on Hutch. Constantly chipped and doubled. Dudes need to take advantage of being single blocked which is what Houston did last year.

If we’re gonna be lamenting any traded DE as the one who got away it should be Sweat imo. He’s been fantastic in Chicago, plus I honestly believe we were in for him until Chicago priced us out of a move.

I’m not deferring to Holmes. I’m deferring to having watched 4.5 Niners games the last seven weeks and having IMO a firm understanding of what a truly impactful edge is and being quite confident that this version of Chase Young really isn’t it. Again, he may come on strong soon here but he’s yet to flash much when I’ve watched.

Why? I don’t really care too much about that. PFF ratings don’t win games.

Would have much preferred Sweat but understand not wanting to give away a first to win that bidding war. One of our late thirds though?

Agreed. But is this just a hot spell or the new Montez Sweat based off of usage.

What I also find interesting is I’m bot begrudging you your opinion. I’m just saying I’m not swayed by yours. I think it’s wrong

This thread has about 200 posts of you rekindling this discussion trying really hard to convince me you’re right

I’m sorry dude. Im not convinced. I’ll buy you a beer sometime and thank you for trying but unless Houston really turns on the jets in the playoffs and becomes the guy who can convert all these pressures into sacks…
