Different situation to me. Colon is more of a cheaper back-up depth kind of OL. Scherff would be more of an expensive option projected to be a starter. Scherff has started 51 games in a row. Colon started 15 games over the last 5 years. IMO you don’t sign Colon because you like him over Scherff, you sign him because he’s a cheaper option for what you think you need—a backup, not a starter.

He got cut at 53 cutdown and scooped by a different team

Just FYI @Jman, looks like Scherff has officially retired. Heard rumors that he had all offseason but could never find anything official. Says it in a recent interview here though, probably won’t get any more official than that.
