Well word was they wanted a 4th. Our 5th will be a late 5th. I see a universe where we could have given them that 4th and had him for the GB game. A game that if we lose, due to anemic pass rush, could have seen us 2nd in the Division right now a game down to GB. That’s big stuff if you are playing poker between a late 4th and a late 5th. That “could” be viewed as being a bit on the cheap side.
Now everything worked out - so it’s BH the genius (again), not BH the cheap. Lazy? Could not see that at all.
But it could have easily backfired as well. I know I’ve himmed and hawed about buying some things or trying to beat up a seller on his price and then you find out it sold and you’re kicking yourself…all over trying to save a few bucks.
Brad got a little lucky but I also don’t think the Browns were ready to give-in on their season just yet either, so he might not have had a choice but to wait it out.
Every single decision he makes could backfire. Every draft pick he’s ever made, every trade, every FA signing… you can’t be afraid to make it.
I just really find it frustrating he’d be called lucky for seemingly getting it right. Hasn’t he done enough to earn our faith? He won’t get everything right, nobody does. But he’s gotten a hell of a lot of it right.
I thought it was pretty clear that this was in the Browns GM’s hands. Was it about compensation or was it about their season? They were playing for something as recently as 2 weeks ago. It takes two to tango.
Are you really angry at Brad bc of alternate realities that never came into existence?
For what it’s worth when asked about the tweet Smith said it was about taking so long and in follow up said that Andrew Berry told him that they were in conversations with the Lions but the Browns weren’t there yet. Sound to me like if the Browns had beaten the Chargers to go to 3-6 he may not even have been on the market. Not sure but it’s a possibility.
No. Not at all. Was just replying to someone that there was “some” merit IMHO of folks that may think BH was being cheap with compensation (holding out) and not squeezing an extra game out Smith. A game that truly could not be more important at this point in the season. It worked out, as I said. Why would I be angry about that? I want everything to break our way. This did. We got the great deal in the trade, the win in Green Bay by butt kicking and the player. Thrilled with that result.
Yes and No, Brad might have had a deal in place with the Browns had the Browns lost the next game or 2…or maybe the Browns told him to call back in a few weeks, we don’t know but it still wasn’t totally Brad’s decision on the timing but again we don’t know for sure. Maybe the Browns were open to a 4th a few weeks ago, idk.
Oh, I totally trust in Brad. He’s struggled a little on free agent wr’s but overall he’s been above what any of us could have ever expected.
Watching his overall demeanor and attitude, it’s obvious he wants to play. Detroit might have yet again just gotten a player that Dan has to fist-fight to keep him off the field.
