Yeahhh buddy. Death and Taxes and that’s about it.
Lane Johnson and Tavon Austin are the only one’s I even recognize.
Wasn’t Cooper a Lion for a minute?
And Fisher was a solid OT for KC for quite a few years.
Barkevious Mingo had a top 10 name at least.
The top of that draft sucked, but I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as 2009 overall, there were some pretty good players to come out of it later. DeAndre Hopkins, Travis Kelce, Terron Armstead, Darius Slay, Travis Frederick, Keenan Allen, David Bakhtiari, Le’Veon Bell, Ryan Jensen, Tyrann Mathieu, Zach Ertz, Xavier Rhodes, Adam Thielen, Kyle Juscyzyskzyk, Micah Hyde, etc… 2009 had Stafford and a bunch of punters like McAfee.
If memory serves me correctly the Dolphins traded a lot to take Dion Jordan
One of the few time the Lions got it right. I mean, when comparing. Only 2 out of 10 good players there. Eh, ok 3. Fisher was solid.
That draft Ansah was my GF (everybody on the board called her ugly too) but I was flirting with Tavon Austin
47 year old rookie Ezekial Ansah
I also liked Austin …. Him and a few small receivers after him really soured me on smaller WRs.
I wanted Jonathan Cooper in the worst way. I wanted that “Generational OG” who would open up run lanes.
I was super excited about getting Ziggy. @coyote12 had talked him up a great deal in the predraft talk and he didn’t disappoint…..except for being 28 years old on draft night……
It was a strange draft where the overall talent pool was lacking but the Lions somehow managed a decent draft class. That is the complete opposite of talent rich drafts where we somehow struck out.![]()
The “lesson learned" for me was how hard it is to play multiple positions in the NFL. Its hard enough to learn ONE spot. Guys like Austin have value that is based on moving him around into different roles. It worked in college. In the NFL it takes a really smart player that is willing to grind until they perfect each role the same way other players perfect their singular role. Austin wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed (no offense).
