2024 Draft

Oh yeah I don’t expect him to come anywhere near us. But as a trade-up target, which as many have pointed out is a definite possibility, he’ll move up my board if this sort of strength is a regular part of his game.

I’m not an objective observer here as a my rooting interest is for Da Problem to get a proper shot as Hutch’s Robin. I think stylistically they are a fabulous pairing.

We of course need a plan B but I’d rather not just outright replace him :man_shrugging:

I tend to agree that he might be the answer, but the problem with Da Problem is we just have no idea. He missed a very important year, and if we go into next year with the same plan it would be shortsighted imo. If he emerges from a more crowded group, great! But I think that’s the way it should be going forward.

I also think you can tell some of how our FO regards him by the way they were trying to use him in the preseason. I don’t think they would have been trying to get him to learn so many LB responsibilities if they viewed him as the answer across from Hutch. There’s still a very real chance his ceiling is DPR, we just don’t know yet.

I agree. Add more pieces but I just don’t see how it’s even debatable at this point that the ceiling of the defense is for the time being determined by our abysmal outside CB play.

Now CB variance is a very real thing so I’m okay treating Sutton spot like Houston’s. We need a strong understudy (or two)

Oh yeah, me too. But I don’t think that necessarily means we must go CB in the 1st (though that is currently my favorite option).

What if we sign Snead, Slay, bring back Moseley? What if we decide the tier of CBs into the 2nd and 3rd is as good as the late 1st, kinda like we did with ARSB? What if we trade up in the 2nd? There’s also the argument that more pressure helps our CBs more than additional talent back there, though I think that’s a little oversimplified. They’re complementary.

There are multiple ways we might not end up going CB in the 1st (though again, at the moment that is my preference). I know you know this of course, and if we don’t go that route I am liking Turner more and more as an option.

we could always trade for a CB too

Right, that too

Mel Kiper’s Current Top 25 Overall and Top 10 at Each Individual Position Group:

That is my preference for the tip of the Speer of my approach. I posted a list a couple days ago. I still think Newsome from Cleveland is the most likely. I think they’d love to jump from their second to our first if a QB is there.

Big fan of Penix, Mel.

Also Trice as an OLB? I think he belongs with Verse in the ends.

In a 3-4 he could be a bully style OLB. Which is damn close to a DE anyways.

But as you are alluding to Trice going backwards is probably a bad idea.

Right, he could play OLB in GB for instance like Enagbare, but that’s basically end on a 5 man line.

Hard to tell what is for clicks, but I think Dane and Mel are too low and too high on some players. I dont have a definitive opinion on every player, but these guys stuck out on Dane’s mock and Mel’s rankings:

Dane’s too low:

1.Trice - Think he will go round one.

  1. Leonard Taylor - Someone will take a chance on his raw talent by end of the second round. I believe Dane had him in round one in his prior mock, now he is falling to round three. I see the splashes, but the consistency is not there. Also, as I mentioned a week or so ago, he didnt even crack the Senior Bowl. Weird for someone to be so high on a player and drop them this far.

  2. Chop Robinson - Someone will take a chance on him round one. Dane pretty much admitted could see it as well in his blurb.

  3. Jonah Elliss -I feel he will go in round 2. The motor, hand usage, explosion, character will get him there.

Dane’s too high:

  1. Jerzahn Newton - I could see someone taking a chance on him in round 1, but lack of size/length and motor dont scream round 1 to me. Pure B-gap player.)

  2. T’vondre Sweat - I want to like and would be thrilled if he lived up to his hype. Lack of a motor and rumored questionable bad habits and dedication. Just gonna have to trust front office on this one.

  3. Adonai Mitchell - I am not this high on him…I would put Franklin over Mitchell, personally.

  4. Patrick Paul - Footwork is slow and he was so grabby and struggled to stay on blocks. Just didnt seem to have the athleticism to stay on blocks without holding. If the media is this high on him, I expect to see his name in the “biggest fallers” category on draft day.

  5. Kris Jenkins - I feel he will be a solid player, but Dane has him at pick 37. I feel this is too high. I see Jenkins as a 3rd round player. I am not particularly high on him, personally.

  6. Kiran Amegadjie - Dane has him at pick 63. He even admits this is too high. I agree

Mel’s too high in top 25 overall:

  1. Newton - He has him 19th

  2. Sweat - He has him 21

  3. Xavier Worthy - He has him 23rd

  4. Penix - I think he could really go round one, but this seems high based on his numbers when pressured

  5. Keon Coleman (14th for a WR with seperation questions)

  6. Fautanu (has him 13th)

Mel’s too low individual rankings:

WR Legette - He should be over X. Worthy and A. Mitchell in my opinion.

DT Byron Murphy - He is B-gap DT number one to me.

Four players i seem higher on than most:

  1. OG Isaiah Adams - Senior Bowl attendee. See how he does. He has talent and a grit mindset. A good Senior Bowl could land him in round 3.

  2. RB Kendall Milton -Seems like a solid RB every time I see him. Ive seen some media have him as UDFA.

  3. Jonah Elliss - I have not watched Chris Braswell in-depth, but what i have seen i would put Elliss and Trice over him…Mel has Braswell as his third 34 OLB/EDGE…am i wrong?

  4. DE/DT Justin Eboigbe - Id love to land him in round 4 as a DE for us. Needs to work on his get-off and agility, but there are flashes and he would be a plus-plus run defender right away at DE and offer a pocket-pusher on obvious passing downs.

I also see Mel has Brennan Jackson and Mo Kamara rated.

He’s got almost 37 inch arms (!!) and will apparently test very well. Those type of players tend to go much higher than their tape says they should.

Yeah. I just feel project players are round 4 and later guys. Preferably round 5.

Trying to do a mock simulator and wow, its not easy.

I really need to watch CBs, but seems the guys with size struggle with transitions. And the guys that can transition dont have the size and could be questionable tacklers in the NFL.

Quinyon Mitchell, Toledo 6’0" 196 lbs
Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Missouri 6’0" 188 lbs
T.J. Tampa, Iowa State 6’2" 200 lbs
Khyree Jackson 6-3 195

I would like as of now 2 of these CB’s before end of day two. Now if we get one UFA then one before end rd 3 an one in rd 5 I want size an speed All are what i read 4.4 alt least 40 guys. Remember length an size is worth little time. There could be others thi is as of now the point is get two .

Think we will get a veteran and then draft one. I dont see us drafting one in round 1, however. Struggle seeing us taking a WR early as well.

Round 2 WR, some good names. Pick your style, really. Franklin is good but Mitchell probably fits us more than him.

That is true every year though. And sometimes the smaller guys who can transition prove to be good tacklers, and sometimes the larger ones who struggle prove to have other tricks that allow them to thrive.

Any CB prospect with both tends to go very, very high.

If we sign a vet CB, or say trade a 2025 pick for one, do you see us drafting a CB in the first 3 rounds? Id struggle with that as they likely wont make as much an impact as a DL, EDGE, or IOL.

Maybe after I watch Mitchell, Kyree, Tampa, Hart a little more I will feel different. But where would they play? Sutton is number 2.

Mitchell is probably going round 1 from the sounds of it, though.

It depends what level of CB we sign. If it’s someone like Snead, I’d be OK waiting (though personally I would still draft one in the 2nd or 3rd, honestly, it’s a deep class and to me, you can never have enough CBs). If it’s someone like Slay or Gilmore, then I think we should draft as if we haven’t added one at all.
