I’m fine with him or Robinson. Not sure when. Just find that both peak my curiosity. But I admittedly lean dreamer rather than realist. I don’t think either is fantastic at football quite yet. They’re both big, bad men that are probably NFL tweeners but they’re not going to stop being big, strong and fast. And they’re both from Michigan which doesn’t suck.
Sorry it was Wingo that got hurt this year He did come back for the bowl game at the end of the year. Smith really had a down year following his injury but I see he did declare for the draft. I’d throw the 2nd 3 at him.
I do think Braden Fiske seems like someone that we’ll like quite a bit. Dewayne Carter is assured a big ranking in @davicus’s knee cap index.
And freshman Maason Smith … sign me up if that’s possible.
So there’s some stuff in there.
And I like both Newton and Murphy better than Kancey.
I am starting to get on the Sweat bandwagon. I hope the front office thinks he will be dedicated, and he will be dedicated.
Why?
Well, I think Paschal and Alim can play 3T. Benito has been solid, however there isnt a NT that can push the pocket like Sweat. And if you can move Sweat to B-gap role against certain teams with lighter OGs, he will be unblockable. He wont finish the play, but he can blow the pocket up. When in B-Gap, he cannot be doubled. If he is, it would leave a TE 1v1 against our DE…good luck with a TE 1v1 on a DE in todays game, especially someone like Maason Smith or Justin Eboigbe, even Dorlus or Brennan Jackson.
For instance, this week , Tampa’s Cody Mauch would never be able to handle Sweat. It would be like Sweat throwing around Washingtons OL when he wanted to really bring it. (BTW, as a side, that is a nice matchup this weekend for us…get someone to overpower Mauch)…
Something to think about.
We have three of 32 picks in that range. A moonshot is justifiable.
The 100/100 of Maason Smith would be SPECIAL.
He’ll likely rise though. A lot of NFL folks are dreamer/upside types. There just aren’t that many if this then stardom types. He’s one of them.
Orhororo definitely has things he needs to learn about the position, but man, I’m watching him right now and he might end up the freakiest tester of the bunch. Much more explosive than I realized, and I think his arms might be really long too. I also think he could get up to 300+ pounds without problem. Plus he’s Nigerian and new to the game, I think there might be considerable upside available.
I was not high on Mauch coming out but I think he would give Sweat a contest. Watching the K state and Texas tape it looked like Beebe moved Sweat or anyone in front of him wherever he wanted to. I am much higher on Beebe than I was on Mauch. I liked Mauch as a 5th rd sleeper but after he turned in to a clown show at the senior bowl he was no longer a sleeper. Beebe is a lot bigger but he dominated the Texas DTs.
Agreed. Freaky. Freakiest? Let me think.
Robinson has some juice too IMO.
There are 10ish DL that could help us next year. We can probably get one. But DB first please.
I’m all about 2 CBs and 2 OL until we see what happens in free agency. What do you guys think of the big RB from Notre Dame? I think we need a 3rd RB to make it through a season. I just see him as a run the clock 4 minute guy that could save Monty from getting banged up.
I like Estime but man, it’s RB overkill at this point. Find a FA or late rounder who can do that. They’re not too hard to find.
How is Estime in pass protection?
Yeah Robinson is right there with him. I see them kind of differently, like Robinson is a 5T who can play 3T while Orhororo is the reverse. Nitpicking, I agree, I just get different vibes when I watch them. Robinson is much more polished.
I already watched that but I was just watching Beebe and he certainly dominated those guys. I saw one play where a rusher split the T and G and neither picked him up. Beebe had no problem pushing those guys around. In fact K State should have won the game.
Maybe give it another watch?
Another example is this, where you can see his power when he rushes. I am not sure he he spends time dancing around at the line of scrimmage. Just push the pocket. When he does, he just moves guys back. Not sure what the rush plan was here. Concerned about QBs running? He shouldnt be because he isnt agile enough to chase them down. Just collapse the pocket. Thats all he should be focused on. Or is it a motor issue?
See if he shows up at Senior Bowl ready to go.
I was just watching Beebe if Sweat did something against someone else I may have missed it. I would give Sweat credit for the number of snaps he takes for a big guy but he had nothing for Beebe.
Ok. Agree to disagree.
He has not been getting many snaps The extra snaps have gone to Levi an the old timer Tyson Alualu
I would like to add a big body in draft late in draft let him battle Jones Martin will improve with OTAs an the whole season on Roster he is a NT also
OK, 22 days later, what I see. If I were the Bears I would trade out of #1 and take either Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels. I think Drake Maye is the best QB in this draft. I’m still convinced we should try and find a DT who can collapse the pocket in FA. Really just need a 2nd and 3rd and long guy, because what we have is working vs the run. Still trying to put my finger on who that might be. Disappointed that Cominsky has been almost invisible in that role, Pascal has shown improvement as has Levi but none of them have made an impact.
I like either OL or CB in the first and second and same for the 2nd and 3rd. Lot’s of OT’s being pegged as OG’s in the NFL, those are the kind of guys I would be looking at. Perfect for jumbo packages and can move back outside in a pinch. Troy Fautanu would be an example. I like Jackson Powers-Johnson for his versatility as well, at C or OG.
CB’s in the first 3 rounds where we pick, well, in the first not sure who might be there. Don’t want to reach but the need is real. Maybe take a small trade or use one of the 3rd round picks to move up, the need is real. If Kamari Lassiter is there,( he would be in Charlie Campbells mock), I would probably pull the trigger.
Best OL and CB’s in 1-3 and then WR and TE. Yes, we have LaPorta but Wright and Mitchell are very underwhelming. Former Michigan and IOWA TE Erick All who was IOWA’s leading receiver when he went down. 6’5" and 250 and a QB rating of 118.6 when targeted. Well, when the QB throwing you the ball has a rating of like 30, that’s impressive just like it was for LaPorta. Wright had an overall PFF of 45.6. I get that Skipper looks great in that jumbo but 1 reception a season isn’t exactly a threat. I would also like a TE who could play FB and actually be a threat to run or catch a pass.
Anyway, I doubt my needle moves much on most of these guys but I do like what the Senior Bowl can show. The combine is typically not a surprise nor is the pro day. That’s where I’m looking these days.
