I’ve gone back and forth on them over the years, but given their insane production over the last half of the season, when they were finally allowed to actually rush the passer ( ) instead of playing contain, they’ve shown that their ceiling is high enough to be good players at the NFL level.
Again I think Nolen has some character red flags. Apparently he was on his best behavior this year, but at A&M there were lots of rumors. He big-timed everyone. Very me-first. At the very least it will have to be vetted, and of course we won’t know the results except rumors.
I like Paul MUCH better than Carter (who has too much Ernie Sims to his game for me), but like a lot of these guys he could test himself into early day 2. I’ve heard the NFL likes him much more than the community does so far as well.
And they LOVE Carson Schwesinger, I wouldn’t be shocked if he rose into the 1st like Vander Esch, Jamin Davis, Jack and Quay Walker did. He’s got better instincts than all of them except maybe Jack.
For sure, but it’s not about what we’d do (I really loved Simmons), it’s about what Brad and our FO would do. And in four years they’ve shown no inclination to touch character risks. Even when they were big needs like Carter.
Interesting … I always thought of him as boom or just given the immense god given talent but supposed work ethic/apathy concerns when he was in College Station.
My opinion Jackson is going early -mid 2nd round, OG with the ability in a pinch to play OT
Grant is a late 3rd - early 4th rounder IMO but if he is there I would take him. Hopefully we get a 3rd for AG taking a job, we don’t a 3rd this year correct?
On the one hand, why didn’t he lose the weight? Lazy? Doesn’t care? The whole world can see just what a monster he’d be if he just shored up his body, but he never did.
On the other, 2X captain as a true junior. That doesn’t sound like a guy who doesn’t care. And he played a ton of snaps for his size (which is why his 2nd halves were far worse on the tape), which doesn’t sound like someone who’s lazy. This isn’t a Jordan Davis situation where he played like 30% of snaps. He was out there a ton.
My hunch is he’ll be in the best shape of his life through this process - most guys are nowadays - and if so he’ll test like an absolute beast. At least as good as Davis if not better. And for as much as Walker struggled, his tape was STILL better than Davis’s, and he vaulted all the way up to 13th overall. So I’ll be really, really surprised if he lasts until the 2nd.
I think Princely will bust if he goes in the 1st. He’s got no power to his game. I really like Ivey but I think he’d be much better as a 5T. Nolen’s a stud talent-wise, but again the character concerns.
Pegues might be my favorite for value. I’m also with you on Chris Paul, and Trey Amos is good too, though all this 1st round stuff seems a little rich.
He’s easy to like for the motor, advanced technique, stout af with crazy pop in his hands.
That said I’m just not sure he has the juice to thrive. Kind of a jack of all trades master of none type. Not much closing speed and I suspect he’ll test really poorly in the 3-cone and shuttles. His wins are almost always about his power, usually in combination with crafty hands.
There’s no doubt he’ll be on our board though, I wouldn’t hate taking him with our 2nd rounder though he’d probably rank a little lower than that for me.
