Yes! I’m so hyped about the guys who stay. Part of that is probably rooting for a team that has some of its best players ransacked every offseason, but I honestly think they’ll be better off for it in the long run. I’ve told you my theory on transfers vs. guys who stick around.
With Muhammad types I get it. There is enough doubt about his NFL earning potential - though I’m a believer relatively speaking - that it makes sense to stack that coin.
Fifita I would have understood. But those two have a pretty deep bromance from what I understand.
Oh I’d say I get it a majority of the time, but I still don’t like it. It widens the deep-and-growing chasm between college football castes. I like my sports to be as competitive as possible.
That said, I am always on the side that RBs should get to the league as quickly as they can. Gotta give yourself enough time to get to that second, and if you’re very lucky, third contract.
It depends on who’s picking. I guarantee if Washington or any team that’s already got a QB will sure as shit pick Hunter!
I think if Washington picks first it means Jayden Daniels was running for his life and I’d be very, very surprised if they didn’t take an OT. WR/CB hasn’t gone first overall since Keyshawn.
And think about that. The Jets had a bad OL in 1995 and surely could have used Jonathan Ogden instead of Keyshawn. They could have taken the one of the two Illinois guys and would have been better off. But some teams like star power and the Washington franchise is one of them. So my bet is if they do indeed pick that high they would take Hunter. But I don’t think Washington will be that bad. I think they win 6-7 games
Fair enough. You’re betting against years and years of history, but hey, it’s your bet to make. Scared money don’t make money.
But since 1936 there have only been 3 WRs drafted 1st overall, and the last one was almost 30 years ago (1996). No cornerback has even been drafted 1st overall. The odds are not in your favor.
Also, personally, I don’t even have Hunter as the top prospect. McMillan (and maybe Burden) is a better WR imo, and Will Johnson is a better CB. Will Campbell and Kelvin Banks are excellent prospects and play a much more premium position (OT). Pearce and Scourton at Edge, Graham and Walker at DT.
Of course that’s just player evaluation and we’re all bound to have different opinions, that’s just how I see it (and I also think if he committed to CB full-time he could work his way up to being taken ahead of Johnson… but I think he’ll insist on being a WR given what they’re paid nowadays).
I absolutely think Washington is one of the teams in the running for the first pick, though. Outside of Daniels I’m entirely unimpressed with their roster. I wouldn’t bet on it - the field is always a better bet - but they’re among a handful of teams I would pick if I had to.
But the game has changed so much that I don’t believe you can go by years and years of history. Every year is gonna be different….see Brad Holmes!
As the DT position becomes more valued in the NFL-see salaries.
It’ll be interesting to see where M Graham, D Walker, and Kenneth Grant land. Also be interesting to see if this class has a 4th & 5th DT in the caliber of these three because these ones are all special in their own right
I think someday another WR will go number one, but I don’t think it’ll be Hunter (or anyone in this class). It’ll be a Calvin Johnson/Chase/Marvin Harrison Jr/Moss big and/or athletic freak type. There’s not one of those in this class.
Washington is going to go 6-11 or something like that.
I suspect they won’t pick first, but if you came back from the future and told me they finished 3-14, I also wouldn’t be shocked.
Milroe needs to really grow this year. Great runner but waaaaay to streaky as a passer. One game he’s dropping dimes next he can’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. Got rattled way too easy last year. Case in point in the playoff game against UM last year. It’s early 3rd Quarter and he is scrambling for a first down. 2 UM lbs are closing on him and he knows he is getting hit. Normally he gets the 1st down but here he slid down to avoid the hit. Ended 2 yards short of the 1st. I looked at my brother and said “he’s playing scared we’ve won this”. Loads of potential just got to put it together.
I think most people feel that the offensive coaching in Alabama is a step up this year as compared to last. And conversely the opposite is true on defense.
But yes, he has to develop as a passer. If he does then he will be an enticing prospect IMO. If not than we have gadget guy/position change conversations. Will be a fun follow.
Going from Tommy Rees to Kalen DeBoer is comparable to going from Joe Lombardi to Ben Johnson.
This is what I thought, before I watched that game last Saturday. I know it was only Western Kentucky, and I know TJ Finley was their QB, but WKU is known for throwing the ball around a little bit and scoring some points. They weren’t able to do anything on Saturday. Even against Ohio State in 2023, while they only scored 10 points, WKU threw the ball well.
I’m changing my take on our new defense from “not great” to “TBD”.
I’m not trying to crap on their defensive coaching staff but from Saban to anyone is likely to be a step down.
Oh yeah, obviously.
I’ve probably asked this before, but where in GA?
I"m usually at my buddies brewery in Athens every Saturday where they have UM on one tv every week. If you can make it…Could also watch Lions there.
