2025 NFL Salary Cap Rises by Approximately $25M

Will this be enough to bring back CD3, Zeitler, Levi?

Won’t be long until we hear the talking heads discussing who will be the first 75 million dollar QB

You’re right. And so many of those massive contracts have been complete disasters…

Watson
Daniel Jones
Murray
Dak
Cousins last year lol
Rodgers the last few years

Teams don’t learn.

I’m sure I missed several others.

I think there’s an angle in which this makes bringing Levi back all the more tricky. I’ve seen a few lists in which he’s a top 2DT in this class. Maybe the back keeps the number down but I think there’s a non-zero chance that Levi signs elsewhere for a number that leaves us all gobsmacked.

The cap going up gives the Lions more money to bring him back, but I agree, It gives 31 other teams the ability to over spend.
Some team will give Levi a multi-year contract with an 8 figure AAV that Holmes won’t match for a backup.

My estimate was 272.2m
6.6% Y/Y average increase in the NFL since 2012

So at the low end of 277.5 is 8.7%
High end of 281.5 is 10.2%

Higher than 2023. 8.0%
Lower than 2022, and 2024. ( 14.1% & 13.6%)

Meaning the NEW rolling average is gonna be around 8.0%

So split the difference.

2025 - 279.5.
2026 - 302.0
2027 - 326.2
2028 - 352.5
2029 - 380.8
2030 - 411.4!

While I can’t rule it out and he had solid pressure numbers for a DT, how can a guy with 3.5 career sacks (single season high 1.5) get anything more than a flyer type deal. Especially one that isn’t an elite run stuffer.

I’m not trying to knock Levi, as I too want him back and think there’s still real potential there. I just would be surprised if someone offered him 10mil+ AAV. I think he settles for a deal between 5-8AAV, on likely a 1-2 year deal.

Overthecap was estimating 272.5mil so this looks like a 5mil+ jump minimum. Gives us a little extra cash if we decided to make a Crosby/Garrett splash, although still very unlikely.

I have no idea, but Justin Rogers projected 3/45m and he’s a lot more plugged in than I could ever be.

If I give you my gfs phone number can you call her and just tell her that.

Don’t knock it until you’re tried it…

That would be great for a potential comp pick.

Would be crazy considering his injury history and production.

Lets hope levi gets a huge deal from another team. Comp pick plus a deep dt draft class means pushing that need to double dip at dt in this draft is a good if not great idea.

This why I’ve been shouting from the mountain tops the whole “you can’t pay everyone” doesn’t hold up.

Yes there is a limit but the salary cap is increasing faster than the top of market of every position except quarterback and luckily ours is already locked up.

There isn’t a single Lion that Brad has drafted that can’t be kept due to the cap.

Now maybe Brad doesn’t think they are worth what it will take but that’s a different conversation entirely

There’s room to sneak in a high priced FA or trade as well.

I forget what pressure related metric he was referring to, I presume it was PFF related, but according to Ryan Matthews of the PODcast Levi was 15 out of all DTs league wide. :man_shrugging:

Not the right pressure, I’m sure, but just dug this up…

Why again are so many people trying to move on from Za?

Id like to see Hutch in this graph, he had 280 snaps. Should be on here ffs.

Levi gets into the money quadrant while Pascal buried in the Yeahhh, notsomuch quadrant

There is money in the cap to pay everyone worth paying. It’s as simple as that in my opinion. Only so many FAs will pick us, only so many of ours will want to stay in the D, and only certain guys are worth their ask….

Kerby 18-19M. Sure
Kerby 25M? Nope

Hutch 35M? If he snaps back? Sure
Hutch 40M plus? Nope

Gibby 15M? Sure
Gibby 19M? Nope

Levi 7.5M per 2 years? Sure
Levi 10M plus 3 years? Nope

Zietler 10M on a 1 year? Sure…
Zietler 2 years 24M? Nope

Carlton Davis 3yrs 42M? Sure
Carlton Davis 3 years 54M. Nope!!!

I’d pay Chase Young 3 years and 30M
I’d pay Dayo Odeybingo 3 yrs 36M
I’d pay Fuller 2 years 12M
I’d pay Adebo 3 years 36M
