Anything pre-1970 I don’t really consider professional sports.

Yes, there were some leagues or teams that were a professional team. But 90% of the events weren’t broadcast on TV or radio. And more than half of the athletes had a day job. The sport was just a hobby.

Basically, the equivalent of rec league sports today.

My great grandfather turned down a contract with Tigers in the early 1900s…. because he could make more money by focusing on his farm.

The most well rounded year? Perhaps. But if you have a year with no championships, how can it really be the best? Then again, if you take off your East Side Blinders and include WMU in the list, then you have your championship.

My grandfather in-law had the choice to play for the Chicago Bears or the Edmonton Eskimos. He chose the Eskimos because it paid more money and he had a young family to feed.

Group of 5 champion is like a participation trophy.

Especially not being ranked in the top 25

I was talking about their national championship in Hockey, bro.
