2026 Hall of Fame nominees

Gore’s a no for me, but that’s just my take on it not being a longevity award. I’d rather have guys who flared brightly like Terrell Davis and Gale Sayers than guys who were pretty good for a long ass time. Davis and Sayers were at least superstar players.

So Ahman Green or Chris Johnson should be in the HOF but not Gore?

Rivers = 5,277/8,134 64.9% 63,440yds 7.8ypa 421 TD 209 INT 95.2 rating
Goff = 3,047/4,646 65.6% 35,058 7.5 94 222 94 95.7

I think Goff is HoF “if” he gets a ring. Without a ring, he’s just another good QB.

While ring isn’t the only criteria, Marino as an example, without a ring you need to be in the “best of all time” conversation. Marino is. Rivers isn’t.

No, to me they weren’t superstars even in their brief careers. Not like TD or Sayers. Johnson comes closest - he had one brilliant year - but mostly he was like Gore, an above average RB who also happened to have a shorter career.

Gurley is a good example of a guy with a short career I’d put in the Hall before Gore. He was a superstar.

Davis has the ecosystem questions. I have them at least.

I get it, but he was just such a factor for them. One of the best offensive players in the league. He would be cutting it the closest, but I’m OK with him in the Hall. And I’d still vote for him over Gore.

Belching the alphabet is rare too, but it’s not what I want in my hall of fame. I want a guy who I say “wow that is amazing” rather than “I thought he reitred 5 years ago.” But it’s a preference of mine. I’m not saying it’s what everyone wants.

I’m fine with him being a hall of famer but TD is way down on my all time RB list for that reason. It’s not just the personnel, it’s that he was at the early onset of that scheme with Gibbs at the peak of his OL coach powers. It’s almost like early NAFTA and economic data. The boom was inevitable and in part illusory IMO.

Ripken was the best(clean) power hitting SS in history. ( A Roid played a ton of 3b and cheated his whole career, while Ernie Banks actually played more games at 1b than SS)

Ripken has the 3rd highest defensive WAR rating in mlb history, behind Ozzie and Belanger . Read that again y’all.

Did all that with no days off for over 15 seasons, at the hardest spot to play outside of catcher, with all the wear and tear that comes with it.

Ripken is the greatest SS in history.

Ernie Banks?

Are you talking at the peak of his powers or the duration of his career?

Barry Larkin was the best shortstop of that era IMO. :man_shrugging:

See above. Ernie Banks played more 1b than SS.

Duration. Still better than Larkin in any measure.

And I really like Barry Larkin

Gotcha. Went into skimming mode I guess. Early 80s Ripken was a force of nature. He was good when I started paying attention to baseball and then mostly just solid + for the last ten years or so. I do think he would have had a better statistical career with some days off but we all make our choices.

Ozzie is a an apples to oranges comparison. He was so vital to that Cardinals team and the differentiated way that they played . I hated those guys but man was that slap and fly style fun to watch.

Oh I get it, and honestly I agree. He’s the most arguable, and I would have him pretty far down the list of all-time RBs as well. But behind any non-Hall RBs? I don’t know. I doubt it (as long as they’re eligible).

Had Ripken on my AL strat team growing up and Ozzie on my NL.

Base running?

What about Honus Wagner? Man did enjoy watching him play.

Should have said overall. Larkin has baserunning and batting average on him. 96 was a all time SS year for Barry

I also hated those Larkin, Davis, Sabo Reds teams but deep down I was simply jealous.
