Absolutely the portal and NIL helped.
First year was big.
Second year was bigger as Dusty realized how physical the B1G was and UM didn’t have the players to compete in that style bball. He stated the Purdue drubbing last season was final nail and they realized they had to make changes. That is why they added Yax, Morez specifically to give them that physical interior presence.
With that said he has done very well recruiting this year so while NIL and portal will aways be a big part i do wonder if it shrinks a tad as this coaching staff adjusts to the B1G style of play. Recruits more with that in mind, it’s not the same as FAU’s league anymore

As a Spartan fan, this is as dominant a Michigan team as I have seen. Right there with the fab 5 and the 89 team. I think the Natty is theirs to lose. Well recruited and well coached.
@Martymcfly2017 yes this team was purchased like so many Kentucky teams. But they are well coached, and I think that’s what is the difference.
Edit: And they can get this one without cheating taint at all. (Sorry. Still a Spartan after all)

May has done a great job spending, but he has paid to get the right pieces. Coachable and talented. And got them to listen. An elite hire.
