2nd Round, Pick 34: Lions Select Iowa TE Sam LaPorta

That’s a grand haul.
Still more upside than what they have received, but it can be great!

I figured since they moved Hock and this was considered an exceptional TE class that they would draft one. Coach knows about the TE spot! I like that they picked one of the very top guys.
The Lions are very fast now in all phases on offense.

So, he’s a slot receiver?

With our coaches, & the way Laporta is wired, he will end up being a VERY good blocker.
This is why attitude & wiring matter SO much. Our coaches can get the most out of this sort of guy. Big, ugly, nasty, MF’rz.

This competitive ass, football-loving guy is gonna see Ra blocking downfield & be like…“Let’s ■■■■■■■ xo this!!!”
He’s gonna learn a ton from the coaches and the culture.

We use LaPorta / Gibbs in the slot and Ra outside while Jamo is suspended.

I’ve heard that’s the knock on him…but rom what I’ve seen, he’s so aggressive in running after the catch that he will likely improve a ton. Size & aggression are not the issue…that’s for damn sure!

LaPorta is not a road grader like Darnell Washington but he is a willing blocker that will complete his assignment. He is not on a par with Kittle but he will give it a lot more effort than Hock ever did. His biggest asset is his ability to run after the catch and make people miss. People are going to like him.

No we didn’t. Trade down netted two picks, with which Lions drafted Gibbs + LaPorta instead of Bijan.

From everything I’ve read on Twitter, MCDC doesn’t know squat about tight ends and this pick was maybe the worst in NFL history. Based on the normal accuracy of of Twitter takes I think he should just get fitted for his gold jacket now.

Not a fan of people trying to judge motives and heart, esp. when they belittle a very productive player. I bet Hock gives his all.

As for Sam…

I’m biased. My Dad’s was named Sam. He was old school family doctor. I lost count of the people who told me that my Dad was their favorite person in the world. He sure was mine.

Saw Sam LaPorta’s combine work. Watched clips, read reviews. I mocked him to the Lions in the second round 50 times over the past 3 weeks.

My sentimentality for my father won’t make Sam LaPorta a great player. His talent, athleticism and commitment might.

You mean the guy that got hurt hurdling a guy while gettting YAC? That guy?

Both Swift and Hock were good at getting tripped up
by the turf. Probably a trait that Bob Quinn looked for

again…I view TE’s like they are extra WR’s. It gives Goff another able weapon in my opinion. because teams are now double on St Brown , and if he isn’t open…we have La Porta and Gibbs, and a few others to get the ball to as well-PLUS , I liked Write…Brock was heating up last season to.

I am not trying to question why Hock didn’t give the same effort that Kittle does when it comes to blocking. I’m just stating that he doesn’t and I have no reason why. Kittle takes great pride in his blocking and gives it max effort.

Kittle is a more naturally aggressive human than Hoch. It’s fun for him, which means it takes less effort for him. There are many other factors than that, but this is one of them.

Really? How many TE’s in the NFL don’t block as well as Kittle?
