Earlier this week, I said the Lions’ offensive line was important for this game as they had to open up the lanes for the running backs. The offensive line struggled to do that and protect Goff when in the pocket. Detroit only ran for 48 yards on 15 carries, averaging 3.2 yards per carry.
Goff was sacked three times and he had to move around in the pocket for most of the game. There was a play where center Frank Ragnow got pancaked, leading to Goff getting sacked the third time. Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver had himself a game with four tackles, two QB hits, and a sack. The Lions didn’t have an answer for someone to go up against him on the line.
The Lions offensive line is the most important position on this team and when they struggle, the offense feels it. Goff has done well when being blitzed this season, but when he is under the type of pressure he was today, it turned into a few bad throws that were incompletions.
The OL looked bad in the running game and Ragnow was one of the worst culprits.
the offense has to be ‘better’, ie has to come out and be successful at the start of the game. the first 2 drives weren’t great, at all. Imagine had we at least gotten 2 field goals and only been down 14-6 instead of 14-0.
the defense is fine against less than QBs. against good QBs they’re going to struggle mightily and look terrible. The best safeties in the league can’t really be utilized because they can just pick on the rest of the defense.
How crazy is it your QB throws for over 400 yards and 5 tds and has to actually be better? or at least the playcalling early on. running into a 9 man box should be saved for porn movies.
I have never seen a defense with so many injuries on just one team, like, ever. It’s honestly mindboggling.
How long is Decker and Ragnow signed for? Unfortunately those two look to be fading quickly. The sooner Brad starts to ponder replacing them after this season, the better. Maybe Sewell moves to LT next year and go from there …
