30 years since the Oklahoma City Bombing

April 19th, 1995. This was the first national tragedy that I remember with any detail. I was in the 6th grade, so the context beyond the event itself was lost on me. I’ll never forget that heartbreaking photo of the firefighter cradling the dead child.

Took this photo of our photographer photographing the memorial. A solemn, sacred, and sobering place.

Crazy stuff …

I was stationed at Tinker AFB when they went through the process to find the best design…. Open to public and started with 100’s of designs submitted. When I got to the final three, a vote was made and this was the winner… I was lucky enough to have been selected as part of the armed security duty to watch over it during this last vote and public showing of the final three…

Now, I’ve been blessed to be able run in the annual run to remember marathon every year since 2011…. It’s a high quality event that should be on your bucket list to come be a part of…

I changed my mind about something recently. I decided to put my Buddha nature aside and call out dangerous speech when I hear/see it. Which is not to say outlaw it, but counter it. There is a lot of conspiracy theorizing and “prophesizing” out there on social media etc., some of which claim collapse is inevitable and we should hasten it and bring about a new world faster that way. The Fourth Turning, acceleration theory etc. I laid into a dude that send me some of this shit because it’s dangerous. I know loads of people where I am now think this sort of thing. It’s time to debate these people.

I live in DC. My kids were little, but my twin boys were 10. We had moved down from Rochester, NY not long before. DC changed Pennsylvania Avenue. You can’t drive past the White House now. Pedestrian only. It was our first (not last) time seeing DC in High-Tension mode.

That’s a solid imho! Scary how they bring into together over a decade before where are at now… but imo they end it correctly

We choose to working it peacefully or not…

And there is the opposing point of view that it’s all nonsense. Humans have been around for hundreds of thousands of years. IMHO there is no prophecy about anything, and certainly no reason to believe war is inevitable, and that accelatering the collapse of society will be beneficial… is insane. This is not the place to debate it, but I just wanted to put that out there. People can look into and decide for themselves. Just want to point out there are, in the zeitgeist, theories like this, and some people, like Charlie Manson and Tim McVeigh may believe they are going to kick off a war by committing heinous acts. I won’t even identify the groups that embrace this, that can be found by a basic search too.

Fourth Turnings dont predict collapses.

They predict wars and at least 40 million people died in the last example they cite; accelerationism is about hastening collapse. I don’t think people appreciate all that entails and would want to trust the people who would lead it. I wouldn’t.

I’m encountering a startling number of people who think all of this is inevitable. Yikes.

See I see the views changing as inevitable but the way we chose to adress is our choice…our freewill

I can accept your perspective - even if it’s totally the opposite (God vs no god) and even love you and let you do you…I can not force my opinion and faith in you

But you can’t do that either…

If we agree to disagree then all is good!

Funny fact it someone here on The Den turned me into that book and I loved it…

And I love you all too!!!:heart::heart::heart::star_struck::sunglasses::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::innocent::flushed::stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::grinning:

Oh, sorry if it sounded like anything I said sounded like any sort of challenge to your belief system. I know how strong your faith is, so I think I just assumed it would not seem like that!

That book might be interesting, but it is better as entertainment than history or any kind of scienctific analysis. In the wrong hands, for example used by the new age teachers that abound where I am, along with notions that “the system” must collapse before a new world can come etc…, there are a lot of self-styled “teachers” and “prophets” on youtube and elsewhere that are more accessible than the real historians and scientists. It’s really getting creepy.

They predict upheavals and change. I think the last 4th was an especially big one. The Civil War 4th was in ways USA specific, but also had influence and inolications for England and France .
The Revolution one kicked off a more ideological change that had qorldwide implications.

The 1700 one was the Spanish Succession and more like the 1860 one, , though the 1620 one centered around the 30 Years War which was a lot more like WW2.

I’d like to think we get the huge casualty/total political reset ones less frequently. Feels like this one may be a lot more economically focused than battle focused, probably because it’s the first one with widespread nukes, which have been a gigantic deterrent to mass army wars the last 80 years.

But see it just lapses into regular historical analysis. It’s a piece of creative writing and is interesting as such, like astrology can be for some people, but I mean WW2 and WWI are categorized in ways that force them into the model. It’s a narrative structure that anyone who takes the time to come up with something can make one if they spend enough time on it.

I get what you thinking but also …

Psychology has patterns and if individuals have them as I comfortably know, then they manifest in society as well.

Successful behaviors repeat themselves regardless if they good or bad… this is a big part why I think the book is on to something… I mean the book was published 1997… and very accurately imho predicted the current political, even faith(s), split that is as it’s ever been…

This 180 degree flip in who’s running the show so to speak is the
Hamartia of society it seems: peaceful transition or not…

But I reiterate I agree the idea of violence to promote either side is bad….

Ya gotta read deeper on it about cycles of child rearing and psychology affecting life decisions, as well as the leadership roles in the 4th turnings that repeatedly get staffed by certain age cohorts and styles of leadership.

The history follows the sociology/psychology, not thr other way around
