4 th down inside our 30 yard

Yeah, going for it on fourth down in your own territory can be really risky, especially with injured players. It’s like you’re tempting fate and putting a lot of pressure on your defense if things don’t go well. We did that inside our 30 . But going for 4 th down in opponent territory is fine

I would’ve definitely went for it on both the first 4th down TD calls. I would not have on the last two. The health of the defense were major factors in him going for it.

Welp, here’s the genius of it.

We were 3 for 3…getting 14pts on 4th downs.

So confidence was there but also

We had 16 minutes left in the game at that point.

We give them a short field big deal they score in 2 minutes

That leaves 14 minutes…us having the ball.

Lions -5 min drive TD
Pack - 5 min drive FG

We get the ball last with our 4 minute offense on the field, at home; 31-31

Ball game

I can’t tell which decision I liked less. Going on our own 30, or going with the game literally on the line and 40 seconds on the clock.

I’m very happy with how the last one turned out, but if Goff couldn’t hand that ball off, we’d be having a very different conversation this morning.

I was shocked at first he went for it and then gave it some more thought.
Here is my take on him going for it, it is the same situation as going for 2 when you could kick the extra point and tie the game to put it into overtime.
He didn’t think the defense could stop them even with 40 seconds left and the last thing he wanted was an overtime game with McNeil and Branch out of the game.
Basically he went for the guaranteed Win!!

But I hear you, if we come short and GB beats us with a FG, everyone would be roasting DC this morning

And if we hadn’t gone for it on 4th down on the goal line a couple times and got FGs instead of TDs, we might be having a very different discussion this morning, too.

No point in playing ‘what if’. This is the Lions and Dan Campbell. Sometimes it’s gonna bite us, but more often than not, it’s gonna help us.

Dan Campbell may work for the Fords…

But he has balls the size of Buicks!

I loved every single 4th down call. 80% is great!

Lol Campbell just moved his house from West Bloomfield, lol no more 4 th down inside our territory @Davicus @stephenboyd57

No reason to go for it at our own whatever it was. The defense just got 3 and out, plus we have punter that can kick it.

That was my point , defense gave the ball back. We should not go forth down inside our 30

It’s all fine, imo.

I was on board with every coaching decision last night, 100%.

Think of the benefits of this going forward tho…Dan’s aggressive nature will need to be matched as if we play GB again they will never know what we are going to do.

Thos could very easily set up a few of those free 5 yard offside penalties that extend drives. And the best part is they can’t really dial that back because we have shown we will do it ANYWHERE and at ANYTIME. So either try and be aggressive or be complacent…either way it may help going forward.

Also, that 4th down toss that failed set up the 4th down play that won the game. The Packers defenders clearly had the toss in their minds when defending it, as explained expertly here by former OL Geoff Schwartz:

So even though it failed, it served a purpose when it mattered more. Ben is great at setting up future plays like this.

Oh i agree. Oline wasn’t getting much push all day.

But but but his knee was down. Ever Packer fan today.

90% of them are just engagement farming. They know it’s ridiculous.

I had to explain them the difference between giving up on the play and what happened. Still his knee was down, yes but no body touched him, this isn’t college football. Learn the rules or dont watch the game
