Actually, right now, the 2008 Detroit Lions defense, which was 32nd in the NFL and got absolutely destroyed by the Titans on Thanksgiving, gave up 5.1 yards per carry, which is the same as the current group (I’m expecting that to improve somewhat as Paschal & Hutch gain more experience0.
The 2008 pass defense was even worse at 7.9 yards per attempt vs 7.7 ypa for the 2022 Lions.
Nothing like competing with your own franchise for worst defenses in nfl history… Patricia’s 2020, Rod’s 2008 D and the current 2022 D are 3 of the top 5 worst defenses in nfl history. All on the same franchise within less than 15 years. I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry about that.

It’s a larger issue than just coaching. The offense moved the ball against both the Patriots and Cowboys. The Patriots game was stupid coaching decisions not to kick fg’s. The Cowboys game was a turnover fest. That’s on the players. The Dolphins game the offense only got the ball 3 times the entire half! That’s on the entire team and coaches. There’s just so many issues with this team each and every week.
Well, it can’t be a rebuild because we haven’t been “built” for a very, very long time.
