Probably sees him as a possible future JRM all pro special teamer too.
JRM was also a 4th rounder if I remember correctly. Good spot to grab a special teams ace who can also add flexible depth on the game day roster. I know all the fans are looking for super star potential but I totally respect the need for Holmes to find guys like this.

A guy like that might not be a superstar, but elite special teams play plus backup spot duty at multiple positions equates to a valuable player.
Nah Reynolds a great blocker. The jury is still out on Vaki
I donât think youâll find too many players who thump people like he does on the defensive side that are going to have any issue at all with blocking.

I see that at the combine he tested in the RB group, though I understand he did drills for multiple RB, S, and WR, IIRC.
Cat wants to be on defense, eh?
I was told the Lions were looking to add a RB on day 3 or as a UDFA. They preferred a player who could catch, and run. I shared this a round before it happened.
I know the Lions also wanted someone who could help on ST, especially with the new rules but they wanted a gadget guy type too. I think how SF used Deebo and how hard he was to defend really had them looking for a player who BJ could use to help the offense.
Obviously thereâs only one Deebo and the Lions already do some of the things the 49ers do with Deebo. We use Raymond, ARSB and Gibbs to do some of those things but when injuries mount like they did at the end of the season and Reynolds was down it hurt what the Lions could do.
Insert Vaki - the Lions coveted him because his versatility and ability to adapt. They view him as a highly coachable player that can help them in multiple
Places. I know most fans see him as a Safety but I think he is just emergency depth there. he is here mainly as a gadget player and ST player. They see him as an offensive weapon.
