A Modest Proposal for a Better Ballpark

As one who works with architects on stadium projects from every pro league as well as college this was a fun article. In my career I’ve worked five MiLB stadiums, six Soccer stadiums, US and International, four NFL stadiums and numerous college facilities.

I’ve been to 75% of MLB parks and over 75 MiLB stadiums, I agree on the fans being moved far away in the current MLB designs. I remember old Comiskey and Tiger stadium and you were right on the field.

I say put fold out chairs in foul territory on the field, just like courtside seats in basketball. Expensive and you have to sign a waiver that if you get hit with anything tough luck chuck.

BUT, the stadium could run a contest that anyone that gets beaned by a foul line drive gets a random section free bobbleheads.

Problem is those seats would have live balls rolling between them a lot…as in when a ball is hooked into the corner that lands in fair territory but continues outside the line…or when a ball is pulled down the third baseline right over the bag on the ground.

And of course there are foul ball pop flies and fly balls that are in play…this would be “Steve Bartman” to the max

The old Boston Garden was awesome to watch a hockey game. Greed killed stadiums like it.

it would be hilarious watching fat drunk guys try to avoid 100 mile per hour line drives right at them.
