Aaron Rodgers/Green Bay Drama, Let's Keep It Here

Yes, but it’s one guy who doesn’t actually quote anyone. From another SI reporter…

You (and other SI writers) are welcome to dispute the article that I linked to, but that is in fact what it says, which is what I’m noting in the title of the thread.

Also, from the article that PFT is linking to in that statement:

Las Vegas Sportsbooks Bracing for Rodgers’s Retirement

One sportsbook has taken the entire NFC North off the board in anticipation of Aaron Rodgers not returning to the Packers at quarterback.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Las Vegas sportsbooks are preparing for Aaron Rodgers to retire and not return to the Green Bay Packers.

Because of the importance of the reigning NFL MVP, Westgate SuperBook recently closed all its NFC North markets, including projected wins, playoff odds, divisional odds and weekly lines for the four division teams, one oddsmaker at the sportsbook said via a Twitter direct message.

Two other sportsbooks contacted after that initial message said the expectation is Rodgers is going to announce his retirement sometime before the first practice on Wednesday.

I mean, I’m sure some of this is just sports books playing it safe, but clearly there are at least some people who are typically in the know stating they expect Rodgers to retire.

And retire is a strong word, more like taking a year off to try to force a trade.

If the Packers leadership was smart, they would trade him to Denver for as much as they possibly can get. Otherwise, they could get nothing, just like we did with Barry and Calvin.

It could very well happen, I wouldn’t take either side of a bet that says he stays or retires. Saying that “Vegas” is in agreement that this will happen based on some unnamed sources, eh, Vegas was smart to adjust the betting, this certainly isn’t universal. If it were, I’d be dancing right now.

Ok I edited the title to clarify that it’s one report saying this

This wasn’t a dig at you, it was a dig at the author.

S’okay, the title of this thread is now UNIMPEACHABLE!

Haha! Sandwich has got to be the biggest draft bust ever. Right after his selection @ #2 the Lions selected Barry Sanders, the Chiefs got Derrick Thomas, and the Falcons got Deion Sanders. In other words, the Packers passed on 3 hall of famers for a chicken sandwich. lol

And thankfully they did, because Favre and Barry together would have won 5 super bowls.

That could account for Davante Adams shutting down contract talks.

Or vice-versa…

For once? That shat the bed alot. They just have a QB who makes the sheets look cleaner than they are.

The story of Green Bay in the Rodgers era should never be written as a bunch of winning seasons and division titles. That’s how it will be remembered and told in stories. But what it should be remembered for is falling short of what could have been. They found one of the most remarkable human beings to ever play the most important positions in all of sports. They found their version of Jordan. And they “only” have 1 title to show for it. That’s how bad they screwed things up.

If you saw the stories of what was going on behind the scenes in Philly with Howie Roseman…it eludes to part of what went wrong in Green Bay. In Philly you had Howie pushing his draft picks extra hard because the more of them that were on the field the more successful he could claim to be. Even when they weren’t the best option, he pushed. In Green Bay the same thing happened. But in Green Bay they reached out into free agency so infrequently that the draft picks didn’t even have legit competition. It was just natural that they forced draft picks onto the field. And even when they didn’t really play well…Rodgers still won games. And as long as you are winning, you still get to claim your draft picks are awesome.

Rogers agent probably leaked it to them to help push the trade issue.

Point being is that Rogers hasn’t put forth and filed any retirement paperwork. So there’s a reason this info is out and the only person it benefits is Rogers. It’s a ploy but it is one that could happen. Rogers personality is the type to retire if he doesn’t get his way.

  1. Detroit is has a habit of doing stupid shit to piss off their star players.
Stafford is the only one they actually dealt with.
Barry and Calvin, not at all.
