I love Stafford as much as anyone. But his accuracy lapses from time to time would be the reason why he wouldnât be. Albiet there is some truth to the Stafford Detriot years being wasted.
Imagine if Rodgers or Josh Allen had McVay for their whole careers. Lots of QBs would have had won more with coach McVay.
Brady is the GOAT.

I love Stafford but there were a couple of those Detroit teams that should have done more. I mean at least win a playoff game when you have Suh and Megatron.

The logical problems here are high.
First, who knows if Stafford would have developed the same way if he wasnât âin the fireâ with Detroit in his early years? He was given a lot of freedom, and made plenty of mistakes (on his way to getting better). Can you definitively say that he would have developed into the same QB without the same challenges? Or developed into a BETTER one (as Adams is asserting)?
Secondly, do we actually have proof that McVay is good with young QBs? By most accounts, he basically broke Goffâs confidence and threw him under the bus. And now, we see what a talented/successful QB Goff is OUTSIDE of McVayâs influence. So, if a young Stafford gets drafted by (hypothetical) McVay, how can we say the same thing doesnât happen? Itâs reasonable to think that Staffordâs confidence could have gotten broken, and he could have ended up a shell of his current self.
Third, McVay is basically Staffordâs age. Isnât McVay like 40? No NFL head coach is getting a job at 21 or 22 (obviously).
Stuff like this just hurts my brain. People assume stuff is linear or simple, when reality is actually very chaotic and asymmetrical. Actions have unintended consequences all of the time, even in controlled environments. If we could predict NFL player development in a linear fashion, we wouldnât have many draft busts.
Rant over. In reality, itâs just a receiver saying nice things about his QB. I shouldnât get riled up about itâŚ

Stafford has been in LA for 4 years and has 1 Superbowl appearance. Brady has been in 10 Superbowls, so Stafford would have to play for another 40 years at that pace to surpass Brady.

While, itâs tough to argue over hypotheticals, Stafford doesnât have a very âbreakableâ energy

I think we had a top 4 or 5 defense, the best WR ever, and a RB duo that had accomplished what no other RB duo had accomplished b4 as well andâŚ..
Honestly watching Stafford in his years in Detroit it was pretty obvious he was a top QB. He was making plays every week, making insane throws, no looks, etc.. just to keep us in games. Most years we were a 5 win team that squeeked into the playoffs because of his playmaking. But without wins, which is a ridiculous stat to put on a QB in a sport where 53 people make a difference in winning and losing.. he just didnât get recognition. Hes the same guy in LA. His play looks no different. The difference is, he can throw an incomplete pass, or make a bad decision and it doesnât make the game over.. because hes on a team.

When Brady went to Tampa and won there too, IMO, that silences ANY argument against him being the goat. I donât think anyone is close to Brady

Honestly, it is getting pretty similar too.. with the way that our offense is.. when we score 30 points and we lose the offense still gets the blame. Stafford could make almost every play and lose.. and lions fans would say âif he didnât make that one mistake we winâ. Its like stafford was graded on some ridiculously bad curve because poeple couldnât see how bad our teams were.

Teams matter. Tom Brady like only 3 seasons in his entire career where he didnât have a top 12 run game AND defense. He is the goat. He is an amazing player.. but if he was in Detroit, it wouldnât have mattered.. and nobody would have seen it.
So the problem is that it would have only included an additional 4 years. McVey wasnât there until 2017. In 2018, Goff took them to the Super Bowl and went 3-3 in the playoffs.
Stafford won a Super Bowl in 2021. 4-3 in the playoffs since and never went back to went back to the Super Bowl.
Adams had one of his worst years of his career with Stafford last year. Adams is just being a prisoner of the moment. Heâs coming off the best game with Stafford and probably the 2nd best game of his career. Weird how Adams hasnât said anything like this until after the last game.
Iâm pumping the brakes on this take. Statistics and Staffords record donât bare out his claims. Apparently the difference between a bum who canât win and one of the greatest QBs ever, is to win one Super Bowl. Since Jared Goff is statistically a better QB than Stafford, does that mean IF Goff wins a Super Bowl, heâs a better QB than Stafford?

He needed someone to kick his ass in his early years. Not let him be 20 lbs overweight and not work on his mechanics to improve his accuracy. So yeah he needed a better head coach. But if you want to feel bad for someone â Calvin.

This is old Lions thinking. I no longer believe winning is a direct correlation of player talent. Sure to win a SB you need a certain level of talent at key positions. But to have winning records and a solid team that is coaching and front office and culture.

If Stafford was with McVeigh his entire career I think we would have ended up with an Avisail Garcia- Prince Fielder situation and Kelly would have been throwing shurikens instead of pretzels.

Stafford will not beat Brady (no one will), or Montana, or Mahomes(unfortunately), but he does have a legitimate chance to be top 10 all-time or even top 5 all-time if he wins another SB and adds a SB MVP for the cherry on top.
A lot of us been saying this for almost two decades. If Stafford was on another team with a good coach and good GM he would get the recognition he deserves. This is nothing new.
