Alim our new DE?

We can’t afford Trey or an elite DE2

But we can pay 100 million for a former NT to plate DE for us

My thoughts are that it was a specific game plan to shut down that eagles ground game. If the philly passing game was functioning up to its talent level we’d have likely not seen alim at end as much.

No it was the Philly run game..why Alim was playing on the edge.

Shep has impressed me. We try lots of new ideas.

We game plan for each opponent differently and I love it.

God bless AG but I knew what was coming in every down and distance from him but Shep is a whole different animal

Everyone wants to comp!ain about the offense…but Shep and the defense is a huge difference

We might have a top 5 defense. If fans stop worrying about offense only

There are many ways to skin the cat… Don’t tell the cat. :joy:

Getting our 4 best DL out there on as many snaos as practicable. I like.

Well Giants and GB and Dallas and Rams and Steeler and Vikings and Bears all have disrupters in their front 7

Can we use McNeil as our new IOL too ?

I love this. Reader and Tyliek, Hutch and Alim with Jack behind them. Those are some buildings.

A few of us talk suggested doing this in another thread last week.

It really isn’t a true edge but more Alim at 4i instead of Lacy or Wheat. A LB (like Barnes) would be the real containment edge and often would rush outside of Alim. But there were occasions when that LB dropped into coverage and Alim was the edge rusher.

This package had Hutch and Barnes on the Edge with Reader at NT, and Tyleik and Alim on either side at 3T and 4i.

Very stout against the run and able to push the pocket.

Alim would probably make a great guard actually. His build, great leverage, quick burst. I’m sold. Time to play both ways. Alim was a linebacker and fullback in high school. Good baseball player too. Dude is an athlete.

What happen with Mo ? Dude was playing well, getting a lot of pressure, and then all of a sudden he playing less and less it seems like. And now kinda quiet.

We use AQM mainly on 3rd downs for pass rushing. Really hasn’t played much on early downs. Only averaging 27 snaps per game. Plays about 40 percent of the time. Clearly they aren’t too keen on his ability to set edges and play the run. For example he hasn’t started a game this season. But that’s okay we need juice on passing downs and he gives us some

Exactly.

Shepp is playing a lot of 5 man fronts on early downs with Barnes playing and Edge and essentially 3 Tackles inside (3T, NT, 4i) with Hutch as other edge.
When the offense gets behind the sticks on a 2nd / 3rd and long AQM comes in for the 4i and Barnes drops into coverage.

On occasion a nickle CB will come in with AQM to replace the NT and 4i for 3-3-5 look. Usually in that formation at least one of the LBers will also rush.

I know we are all pretty happy with Shep and the tweaks he is making to this defense. But I think an underrated hire was Kacy Rodgers. Dude had a ton of experience coaching dline, and being Todd Bowles right hand man on defense for a decade. Don’t think he called the plays but was the defensive coordinator under Bowles for 4 or 5 seasons and been a run game corrdinator for several years. He might be one of the reasons we are seeing so many different defensive fronts.

I hope the Lions didn’t start the activation clock too soon on some players.

We see that they should have kept Wingo on the PUP list instead of activating him in August.

They delayed Alim’s activation because the roster spots needed in the secondary, but at least he is starting and playing well.

Rodrigo has been reluctantly activated. They don’t really know what to do with him because Stuard and Nowaske are playing well in their roles and the 3 starters never come off the field.

Reed is a starter and should step back into his position.
Dorsey will cost a Legion of Whom member (Hallet) a roster spot. dorsey had been a plus Special Teams player but was not good on his first return from the PUP list. Hopefully he will be better this time.

Frazier will have to be activated prior to the Thanksgiving game. Whose spot will he take? Niese probably. Who knows if he is better than Neise at this point.

Paschal has to be activated as well (or IR’d) for the season. Shepp seems to really like Lacy and Wheat so it will probably be Q. Jefferson. But Paschal doesn’t seem close to playing. He will be healthy scratch next to Wingo.

Davenport is able to be activated as well but with the log jam on the D-Line he will probably not be activated until the Dallas game. Then somebody will have to go. If Lacy and Wheat are still in the rotation it may have to be a player from a different position group. Probably Lovett or another member of the Legion of Whom (Whiteside or Maulet).

If Kerby can overcome his knee injury, In 2 weeks the defense could have EVERYBODY back (assuming that TA will be out of concussion protocol).

Shepp will have more defensive players than he knows what to do with (or have roster spots).

The offense will still be down 2 starters, but not bad to begin the stretch run.
