Just looked it up, 2023 was the final year.
Yea the contract wasn’t going to age well but Mike Ilitch didn’t care, it was a loyalty contract from him to Miggy and he wanted him to retire a Tiger. IMO.

Yea, Boris has his guys, the big name guys get to Free Agency it’s rare they don’t. He will be with a big market team after 2026 if not before or during.
I think they keep him unless someone blows them away with an offer, perhaps dealing at the deadline.

Skubal doesn’t want to leave the Tigers.

I hate losing him. I hated it when we lost verlander/scherzer/porcello and we had fister and sanchez too. god that was a great lineup.
but verlander/scherzer was the juice for that.
it’s rough losing a legit ace not just for your lineup but would be the #1 on the majority of all the mlb teams.
I mean the Tigers CAN do it, but I really don’t think they will.

My sense of the Scherzer situation is that he wanted to be the No. 1 guy on the staff and Verlander stood in his way. In other words, even if the Tigers had offered the same amount of money, Scherzer still would have left. That’s how they ended up with Jordan Zimmerman at $110M for 5 years.
