All I Want From This Draft

Is a single playmaker. Don’t care which side of the ball, they can get great depth the rest of the way, but a “difference maker”, is what I am looking for. We have starters, for the most part or at least decent backups, across the board. What player and what trade do you think could get us that player?

lol if we get only one people will say BH failed at the draft. That’s how fickle some people are. I wouldn’t mind one star, but I would also be happy with a well rounded one since we have many stars already, or even just depth pieces that give us leverage on our upcoming FAs so we aren’t in the lurch if they leave us.

Players who will possibly / likely be gone this time next year:

  • Reader
  • Anzalone
  • Levi
  • Patrick
  • Amik
  • Davenport
  • Lopez
  • Raymond
  • Paschal
  • Decker (cap cut $11m saving)
  • Glasgow (cap cut $5.5m saving)
  • Wright (cap cut $2.7m saving)

This draft and the next will be about replacing these guys. We have playmakers, what we need is functional depth.

All I want from this draft is a magic pill that makes no one from the team get injured.
And for Goff not to have his worst game on the last game.

It’s tricky, because a guy like Nolen for instance is gonna get you the flash plays… but he’s also gonna disappear for long stretches at a time. He’s very much an Ed Oliver type, and while he makes plenty of plays (and gives Frank fits), he’s the main reason Buffalo struggles against the run in the middle.

Landon Jackson is stiff and can struggle to keep contain, but has a knack for closing on the QB and getting him to the ground. Mike Green is a spin strip-sack waiting to happen, but he’s got the sexual assault charges working against him.

Watts is an excellent deep playmaker, but we already have that in Kerby.

There’s a lot of playmakers at RB, but we’ve got that covered too.

Luther Burden is a house call waiting to happen, but he also takes plays off, doesn’t give it his all blocking, etc…

So a lot of the playmakers have some issues. I’m also not sure too many rookies get the opportunities to make a lot of plays. Davenport will start over any edge we draft until he gets hurt, for instance.

Kevin Winston might be able to garner plenty of snaps, and he could be a great playmaker if you consider elite tackling to be playmaking.

Trading for Trey Hendrickson.

Completing the OL by drafting Donovan Jackson and signing Scherff

Decker—-Manu

Donovan Jackson —— Kayode

Ragnow —— Glasgow

Scherff —— Mahogs—— (Sorsdal)

Sewell ——- Skipper ——- Sorsdal

It’s the perfect OL

Trading down with Bears

28 for 39 & 72

I typically prescribe David Montgomery highlights. Far more effective than drugs.

EDIT: Don’t call me when it lasts for over four hours. That’s expected.

I think I am going full grouchy old man here.

All I want is to see the Lions win a Super Bowl.

I have seen the Tigers, Pistons, and Red Wings win it all. Yet, I believe the Lions celebration would ascend all of those in Detroit.

That isn’t to say that I do not want them to draft great players that are going to cause us difficult decisions in the next 3-4 years. I look forward to such difficult decisions.

I really want one more defensive playmaker that turns the opposition over. I’ve always seen the two cal guys that way. Nohl and Teddye both play defense trying to get the ball. Watts of course but I think we’re signing both safeties. Same for Makuba. Cobee Bryant? Barron?

That was one reason I always loved Henley. The athleticism was great of course but I loved how he played defense like the ball was his. You could tell that he missed parts of his WR days.

Agree. I was in on him in 23’ as well. Mid 3rd value!

I really think we could do the same in rounds 1-4 this year…

I think counting on Glasgow is dicey, and while I loved CM coming out as even a round 3-4 guy… and he played great- I’m still not ready to put all the eggs in that basket….

Zabel, Booker, Savaiinaea, or Jackson all feel in play at #28 for us. One player could be a 4 year hedge to the successes of many elite playmakers and a top QB-

I think getting DL and WR help in rounds 2-4 and maybe trading back up to round 4 with a future pick for S or LB could be the move.

Somebody we like will fall to 60…. Princely, Alexander, T Williams, A Collins, L Jackson, JTT, Gillotte…

I sure like T Horton or J Higgins, and Thornton is growing on me as a bit more of a projection- but he’s a specimen.

This should be a trenches draft. Its where its deep and big needs now and future.

The oline can go from old vets to young and set for next 10 yrs with a couple early solid picks. Rounds 1-2 and again later in rds 5-6

Get 2

Dline inside and out. Also double up. If we come out of this draft with 2 oline and 2 dt and 2 des that can contribute i will be happy.
