Amari Cooper: I'm trying to get paid this year

Glad the Lions got ARSB done, so the team didn’t have a similar distraction.

He should… This is likely his last chance at a big contract… He’s been healthy his whole career, produces every season, it’s the last year of a deal he signed 4 years ago… He deserves an extension. I’d give him 3 years/$75 million with $50 million guaranteed, his game shouldn’t be affected by age as much as players like Tyreek or Deebo.

Buggs doing the opposite… he’s going to try to pay his way out of prison.

I like Cooper and he has been a great receiver for a long time. But he is standing on the edge of the age cliff and there is no way I would give him a “real” 3-year deal. It is too risky for me at those prices.

I expect that older veteran receivers are going to have price tags that shrink not so differently than the RBs used to. There are too many good young receivers with more entering the league every year. It will be a cost/benefit/risk/reward thing.

None of that detracts from how great he has been.

Most deals are not “real” deals… There’s usually an out a year or two early… As I suggested, 3 @ 75 with $50 million guaranteed is basically a 2 year $50 million deal with some dead money on the back end.

And, he did:
