This isn’t even the first time I’ve heard about an employee dying in an Amazon warehouse and the other employees being told to get back to work.
That’s ■■■■■■■ depraved.
Just disgusting.
So I worked for CATS at INOVA Hospital system in Northern Virginia maybe 10 years ago. CATS was a 4 level addiction unit: Detox, Day Treatment, IOP, Outpatient. I will never forget the director of the entire program came to a meeting and her biggest concern: “We need to get these people out of the beds and get paying customers in the beds, so if discharge is at 12:00 they better not be in the room at 12:04”. Up until then I had never heard a medical professional (and I come from a family of dr’s) refer to struggliung patients as customers. It was sickening.
Definitely not enough “mourning” from that manager…. ![]()

In my twenties I briefly worked at a Memory Care facility. I had a very similar experience with management and ownership. Profound cold-heartedness. Doing it for all the wrong reasons. Owner drove a Lambo though so I guess he got his.
My first full time job, I delivered furniture… The guy I replaced died on the job, massive heart attack while riding shotgun in a delivery truck. When the driver got back to the warehouse, he was asked by the manager what time he died so he could clock him out (in a semi joking, but serious manner) they laughed, then he went out and finished his deliveries
I don’t think asking them to go back to work after EMS leaves is out of line… Not trying to help the guy on the floor is crazy though
That’s pretty regular in for profit facilities these days. On top of ordering unnecessary tests/exams, admitting patients who don’t need to be admitted to meet quotas which their bonuses are tied too. Once the patient has maxed their insurances coverage for length of stay they are shown the curb. If you actually google search lawsuits against medical facilities for these type of practices there are a lot.
We will occasionally have nursing homes try to get us to send their long term care patients back with rehabilitation so they can bill for it on top of the usual long term care. That has led to some interesting back and forth while they try to convince us that a patient with no rehab goals needs rehab.
Portland, OR… so yeah, not too terribly far off the mark.
