It’d be really nice to get updates on James Houston and Alim McNeil this week.
If we have those two back including CJGJ, I’d feel a whole lot better about this defense.

I feel like we’re not getting Houston back this year…at least not in game shape.
CJGJ is a HUGE help. SO good in run support, as well as his other safety-ly duties.
Kerby, Branch, Iffy…WOW…this young batch of Safeties is very encouraging for the short term…but especially for the future. CJ is a perfect mentor to them
Agreed. Alim sounds much closer to returning.

McNeill (knee) is expected to return to the field this season, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports. McNeill was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury Dec. 5, but head coach Dan Campbell said Friday that the team is optimistic McNeill will return before the end of the season, saying that he feels “good about getting him back”. The earliest the defensive tackle could return is Week 18 against the Vikings.

Keep hearing Houston is coming back but doesn’t sound too convincing
Dude was pulling a sled over a month ago.
I’m wondering if he reinjured it, or if the Lions want him 200% before they put him onto that field.

The report was misleading. He was being pulled around in a sled. Much different.
Let’s talk about McNeil for a moment. There’s been a few games where he was a real difference maker but most of the time he is just an average DT. In fact you barely see a drop off in DL play when he’s out.
Detroit has one of the best run defenses in the game. Allowing just 90.6 yards a game all season but the last. Few weeks with McNeil out and Buggs playing more they are averaging 80.7 yards a game. Personally when Buggs is out I can tell but most of the time with McNeil I can’t.
I just don’t think he’s an important piece.
