Any possibility of correcting this by next game?

Watching an interview with Dan, he did make a good point. The Lions played on Sunday and really didn’t get a chance to work on all the things they needed to clean up defensively before they had to play again on Thursday. We now have 10 days before we play again. It looks like a lot of the shenanigans we observed were due to players not understanding what their assignments were. Unacceptable as many of these guys have been in the system for at least a year. But it is what it was. Poor talent alone doesn’t explain all the carnage we saw. Or at least I hope it doesn’t. What do you guys think? If this dung pile isn’t corrected by next game though, Shep is on a 1 mm thick piece of ice with rock salt on the bottom of his feet.

It was beyond ugly no doubt. But only 3 days off to prepare for the best qb in the nfl is tough. Not to mention they barely practiced this week. Just some walk throughs in pajamas.

We definitely have to show noticeable improvement vs the Jets. If they carve us up too, that would be hard to take with 10 days to prepare. Just looking at the defensive players on the sidelines last night, they look confused and defeated.

Amen… If they come out against the Jets and struggle to stop the mighty Geno Smith, changes will need to be made. Maybe an early bye week is a gift and they can install someone that’s competent before the season is severely affected. I question if DC would ever do that to Shep… I do believe he’d hand play calling to another person on staff if it is as bad or worse than it has been. Kinda like he did with Morton last season.

Lions 4-1 at bye

Nothing has changed, we all knew when the schedule came out. We were going to get carved up by the Bills

They’ll limp along beating up on some bad teams

Just enough to fool us for a while.

Well this defense was bad last year too sooooo

They had a bunch of months to fix it

I expect it to improve but I also expect it to continue to be an issue all year. Just not enough talent back there.

You know who plays some of his best football against the Lions? Geno Smith. You know has an ass-tastic, vomit inducing defense? The Lions. The math is mathing for this next game to go as some think it’s going to go not going that way.

Yup. Every single person in here had Buffalo week 2 as our only loss headed into the bye. Does it really matter how it happened at this point in the season? If we are still struggling come week 7, then maybe it’s time to show some concern.

Too funny. We are likely to be 4-1 as everyone predicted and 2/3rds the board is ready to walk the plank.

I was at that game last year when he was at Ford Field with the Giants. Played pretty damn well.

It’s not that we lost. Like you said most of us expected it. It’s the carry over of the crappy defense from 2nd half last week directly into this week.

  • Players look confused
  • We still give up way too many 3rd and longs (Yesterday we gave up a 40 yard TD on 3rd and 12)
  • Getting gashed by runs
  • Play man to man against a QB that makes a living tearing up man coverage with both his arm and his legs

All of these are alarming. BUT, I am still waiting until the bye to make a final judgement

On the Bills first TD drive they didn’t even have a 3rd down. How pathetic is that.

The players looking confused points directly to coaching and being unprepared to play.

Somebody said dan mentioned that we are going to peak at week 5, may be we cant take too much winning at that point

It matters that they played like ass, that the coach couldn’t adjust and that when we needed to run in q3 and 4 we couldn’t . It’s called a harbinger, foreshadowing, leading indicator, spidey sense,….

It’s almost like after decades upon decades of watching bad Lions football teams, you have developed an uncanny sense of when the Lions may have a bad football team…it’s wild man!

Dungeon of doom baby.

This really is a great point. Beaten or outschemed, there is no reason to not know your assignment.

The good news is the next game isn’t against the Jets. We really do have a very soft schedule, including the next three games, Jets, Panthers, Cardinals.

Bills were by far the best team we will play and Allen is easily the best QB. Next best QB we play may be Baker Mayfield.

“Didn’t get a chance to fix the problems on defense”?

What in the world were you doing on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday?

I know it was a short week but I’m not buying that as an excuse. They could have had a month and Buffalo would have dog walked them.
