Anyone else think Will Ferrell isn't funny?

While there have been a few times he’s been entertaining, I’ve just never found the guy to be funny. The latest Seahawks video where he pretends to be Greg Olsen wasn’t funny at all.

No.

Ferrell has been involved in some dumb and not funny stuff, but he’s also done some of the most hilarious shit I’ve ever seen. Old School and Step Brothers are hysterical, and the best of his movies imo. Some of his SNL stuff was great, especially the Jeopardy bits. Smacktalking Ditka in Kicking and Screaming also cracks me up.

His portrayal of Alex Trebek on SNL was funny, but I think it was mostly because they were ensemble pieces. Ferrell as Trebek would be the straight man with Darrell Hammond (Sean Connery), Norm McDonald (Turd Ferguson/Burt Reynolds), providing the laugh lines.

But hey, to each his own.

I have never found Will Ferrell to be all that funny

I don’t find much funny from the shit Hollywood rolls out. David Chapelle has done some funny stuff. Johnny Carson was great on a daily basis. American Pie had some funny stuff in it, but there is very little that is funny anymore.

Chapelle is beyond hilarious. I’m fairly hard to please as far as stand up goes but his most recent Netflix standup was just about the funniest standup bit I’ve ever seen.

George Carlin will always be my favorite though.

You can add me to the camp that doesn’t find him that funny
He can be somewhat amusing — which is better than most these days

Some of Will Ferrell’s stuff is great. Talledega Nights and the first Anchorman, for example, are just the right level of stupid Wedding Crashers is great. He really was on a role for a bit. But he has the same problem as Jim Carey did back in the day- he can fall into the trap of being too stupid.

Perhaps not coincidentally, my favorite movies for both of these actors are ones where they have more serious roles. Stranger than Fiction is a great Ferrell movie. Similarly, The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind showcase Carey at what I think is his best.

The thing that makes him funny, when he is actually funny, is that he is so extra. Everything he does is ridiculously over the top. I also don’t think Will Ferrell could do stand up like some of the other guys. He is a skit actor.

I’m the wrong dude to ask, because I laugh a lot.
I loved Old School, Step Brothers, Taledaga Knights
…Chapelle is also my favorite…

I nearly died laughing watching this…Watch to the end when he’s talking about “my son Gabriel”. HILARIOUS.

I think he’s funny. I can think of plenty of times he’s made me laugh. He’s had some bombs for sure as well, but that’s part of being someone who tries to make people laugh for a living I suppose.

Lots of funny stuff out there. Different strokes for different folks.

George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chapelle–all great comedians.

This is funny, but not necessarily because of Will Ferrell:

Christopher Walken is what makes it funny.

I would agree that it was the other guys throwing out the laugh lines, but I do think Ferrell deserves some credit. His reactions are part of the reason why the jokes landed so hard for me.

But overall, I can understand why you and a lot of people don’t like Will Ferrell. If you look at his career as a whole, I definitely think there’s more bad than good. I’m not a huge fan or anything, I just choose to cherry pick his good stuff. Similar situation for Sandler.

That’s about it for me when it comes to Sandler.

I’d add Billy Madison and his first two albums, but I’m pretty much right there with ya.

I love comedians, sketch or stand up - doesn’t matter. I think there are very few of these people that I would come out and say I outright dislike them. They’re just maybe not my cup of tea much like Ferrell isn’t Freebird’s.

Some of my favorites are Hedberg, Macdonald, Farley, Dangerfield, Seinfeld, Rickles, Joan Rivers, Sandler, Stern and Gottfried… Lots of laughs over the years from them. I’m sure I’m missing some of my other favorites. There’s just so many.

Joe Rogan’s newest standup stuff is pretty good. So much truth in a lot of it, too.

Guys watch those outtakes I posted above - I literally cried laughing the first few times I saw it. (not being pushy, just trying to gift you some really hard laughter)
