Looking at the APY that teams are spending on their current roster is an important figure. What teams spend on their current roster, they can’t get back, even if they kick the cap hits down the road (ala Philly, Cleveland, NO, etc).
I’ve been eviscerated by others for looking at spending this way, but I’m telling you it may be the most meaningful numbers out there when looking at team spending. I never had access to other teams spending until Jason put up OTC, so I couldn’t compare what the Lions were spending to other teams.
The Lions are over $300M in spending this year, but it includes the new salaries for Goff, Decker, ARSB, Sewell and Decker, even though they ALL are in the last year of their prior contracts. So the Lions spending is a bit overstated, but the Eagles would be as well because of extensions for AJ Brown and DaVanta Smith. 49ers for Aiyuk
The Raiders Commanders and Chargers are in a reset as they usher in new regimes and the Rams have taken a step back after years of overspending, Broncos because of having to absorb the Russell Wilson fiasco.
And he’s so versatile that he can smooth out the gaps year to year when injuries or poor planning leave them short of a particular skill set in that room.
Right. Down one L’Jarius and the secondary just morphs into something different.
Couldn’t stop Likely though! (I’m not actually sure how many times McDuffie covered him, if at all, I just wanted to boast about my new favorite non-Lion).
