I’m sure our draftniks here have some other options.
I think damn near all of these guys go a round or more higher than he has them here (no fault to him, this is where they are on the sims right now). For me that’s what the list is, DEs that should be going higher in each round.
That guy thinks Kyle Kennard will be there in the 3rd round??
He won’t. Neither will Swinson. But they’re both close enough to be arguable (usually in the 70s/80s on sims).
EDGE is a premium position. But is it possible that Lions fans are overvaluing some guys because of the apparent need here?
Brad loves his bargains. So if the right value isn’t there in the first, he may have a couple of guys that fall through the cracks and he will pounce when the time is right.
Teams often seem to be jumping the shark with their picks. Some DE is going to slide, not because of his talent and/or character, it just happens.
I’ll bet you an Alf pog that Scourton doesn’t go in round zero.
It seems like many on this board are willing to draft everything but a DE. I get that there may be a run on DE and some are in love with the BPA philosophy. But when your greatest need currently is at DE, you don’t draft a 3rd safety or a backup O-lineman to replace a guy that will retire in a year or two. For me, BPA philosophy is great when you are void of talent. This team is not that.
I’m not willing to draft all DE, but this team I feel needs to draft a DE either in the first or second round, or both.

There’s not a soul on here who wouldn’t prefer to get a DE early. However many of us won’t reach for one, and more importantly, we don’t think Brad will either. We’re just taking all of that into account.
The best case scenario, IMHO, is that Brad takes BPA, regardless of position, including safety, and that he finds his Brian Branch/ARSB at DE in the later rounds. And maybe he both takes one in the first and finds a later round gem as well.
I love Kerby, but if he is one that we love but can’t really afford to pay with Branch’s deal upcoming, getting a third round bean and plugging in a rook is a tough but realistic choice. Tough choices are on the horizon regardless. So I do think that’s in play.
And this is really possible in a class this deep. Elijah Roberts could turn out to be Cam Jordan-esque and we’re set. Swinson has some Danielle Hunter-style upside imo. Unlikely he’ll get there, but he’s got the juice. JTT, Femi, Jackson and a lot of the other potential 2nd rounders could be stars. Later guys like Diggs, Jah Joyner or Rucker could hit. And for all that I think he’s rated too highly on here, Sawyer, if he’s Sam Hubbard 2.0, that would really work for us.
Position is part of the BPA equation, but it is only a part. A Hall of Fame prospect isn’t going to be skipped over just because he is in the wrong position group. That said, in a tier of similar rated prospects, the position becomes a far greater priority.
But I suspect you know all of this. But I believe the Lions do not use BPA or Position of Value to draft. We pick “Brad’s Guys.” So far it has been a smashing success. But now we have very few positions to fill and it gets easier to point at positions of perceived needs.
I actually believe that his drafting methodology is not going to change… ever. However, I do believe he is working phones to put in potential pricing for trades (up and down and players) with other trades.
I believe he went after Garett and Crosby. I believe he is still working for Hendrickson. I don’t believe that trade will ultimately get done, but I have every belief it is still in the works.
Some fans are definitely overvaluing DEs. People are panicking about last year, but what if instead of both Hutch and Davenport getting injured it was Decker and Sewell? Would fans be pounding the table about how much we need an OT?
Thankfully, I think Brad likely has more perspective. I think a long-term upgrade opposite Hutchinson is likely a priority for the first three rounds, but it seems improbable that Holmes views it as DE or bust in round 1 like many fans do.
The pop-ups on that site are so bad it’s impossible to read the article.
I’m not sure why my blocker isn’t stopping them but damn that site sucks now.
Actually a good point. It was simply crazy how injured the defense was while simultaneously the offense staying extremely healthy.
Just from an odds perspective the offense might have worse luck next year and the defense stays pretty healthy ![]()

Yes …. But DE isn’t our biggest concern.
We need a guy who can play the edge and back up SLB. There is a concerned about Barnes not being 100%. We also do not have a viable backup behind him.
This team is going to target an edge/SLB type at some point in the draft. Bet on it.
I suspect we look to trade up and get the guy we really want but from what I’m hearing that guy might go way higher than the Lions can trade up for. And way higher than current mocks are projecting him to go.
Really? He got hurt week 3 and we just made him the highest paid linebacker on the team. I sure hope he’s healthy by week 1.
I actually thought Barnes might have to settle for a 1 year deal cause of the knee injury. But when I saw the new contract it made me think his knee was recovering well. Plus it wasn’t his acl.
Jihaad to the Jets at 7. Ezeiruaku to the Falcons at 15.
how do we know that between Dan and Glenn, they don’t already have a DE in mind?
