Artificial Intelligence - what is happening?!

Can anyone make sense of this? About 6 months ago this A.I. technology(?) smacked the public right in the face. Boom!..it was here!

Deep Blue and the chess match was a couple decades ago. They’ve been working on this stuff for a long time. A.I. just suddenly reached this point of public consumption in 2022.

It’s started with digital artwork last summer, then to ChatGPT soon after.

Programmers are using it to help write code. It does homework for students. It went passing the BAR exam in bottom %10 to passing in top %10 in just a few months! That is mind-blowing progression in such a short time!

What is the next step? Apparently it is A.G.I (artificial general intelligence).

Is sounds like the greatest advancement in Humankind while also replacing us at the top of the food chain. It’s terrifying!

It (A.G.I.)would have ALL the answers. Data being the new oil that runs the machine and helping it learn, improve and grow more intelligent. The more information (data) you feed it…the more it improves.

It will diagnose diseases early. It will cure diseases that we have no cure for. It will run global markets and replace entire governments. It will be the Judge and Jury of law decisions.

Or it could destroy us. Using disease, medicine, biological chemicals, propaganda (deepfake) and our own military weapons (drones?) against us.

It feels like a transformation of all we know is upon us. An incredible human invention that both changes the world for good while risking our own destruction.

The more I dig into this new A.I and soon to be A.G.I…the less I understand and the more fear I have. It is not hard to envision this technology being used in a malicious way towards humans in the future. The scariest part being the possibility of ‘it’ using it’s power and intelligence…against us.

I hope I don’t sound too crazy. Maybe some here can pull me back from this ledge I’m standing on. How does everyone else feel about this sudden human shift into A.I.?

What good changes will this bring to us as humans?

What risks do we face if this technology really can achieve becoming close to omniscient?

My brother is a computer scientist. Had an awesome conversation with him just last night.

His opinion: CharGPT changed everything but while the market is championing this as the next IPhone from a commerce standpoint my bro actually things it’s going to democratize innovation and that Big Tech is actually bringing a Trojan horse into their own walled gardens… Someone will of course be in the business of providing all the computing power (or is that viewed as too important and is nationalized?) Applications that now took years to build will be done in weeks. Writing code will take a back sea to simply having the idea and knowing the right questions to ask.

He thinks the impact on the white collar job is going to be swift and severe. The irony is that after years of blue collar folk feeling they were left behind those jobs are going to have the best staying power as robotics are still not quite there for all applications.

We need to start having some big boy conversations very, very soon. Basic Living Wage? What sort of guard rails do we need to have in place? What happens in the sci-dI scenario that we hand over all processes and then AI becomes truly sentient.

Crazy times we are living in.

Invest in Skynet. It’s stock is going to explode

Seriously, man. We are not prepared for what is coming. And it’s coming fast.
Don’t necessarily mean T2 but my gosh the world could look so different in just a few short years.

I’m kind of looking forward to it. When I’m too old to go do stuff just plug me into the matrix. Retirement homes and prisons of the future will be catacombs and we all get our own VR pod

Exactly, The terminator movies are turning into real life

All Ive been saying the last 20 years in the OTT is that the human mind is extremely bad at conceptualizing exponential growth, and Ray Kurzweil’s The Singularity Is Near is a playbook for whats going to happen.

Well, it’s happening now. The hockey stick chart is going hockey stick. Exponential growth of exponential growth.

Wanna lose your shit? Think about 25 years from now with this stuff that is cranking up many levels in just months. It’ll be 100 years of linear advancement…

Thusly, THEY REALLY NEED TO GET THIS THING SOME GUARDRAILS.

Because, oh just one of a bajillion angles?

Imagine a rich, high tech superpower that decides it wants to be an actual Bond Villain.

Because, that’s what Beijing is.

Oh yeah, my other long-term message in OTT?

Fermi Paradox/The Great Filter.

If we arent careful and work as a world together…yeah, that could be what this is. Not today, not next year…but, not impossible.

That said, the opportunities for advance are mind-boggling. Give a quick read to Arthur C Clarke’s Light of Other Days…not for its main plot, but for its use of AI as a personal tool like Alexa…that part is coming real fast.

I think it’s possible that the arc is 1:) OMG this is almost Utopian 2:) Skynet

I read this article in the NYT a couple of weeks ago and it definitely made my jaw drop.

I’m not sure the general public (myself included) knows what monster is about to be unleashed upon us.

My mind is spinning with all the world applications of this tech. Like @CuriousHusker said…white collar jobs will take a huge hit. No more need for management, marketing, HR,…list is infinite.

The A.G.I will be able to answer every question. How much product do I need, who I should hire, budget. Humans will not answer questions anymore…the machine will answer it for us.

What about Religion? This could have a huge impact on global religious beliefs. This technology will become a new religion. People will start to worship ‘it’.

As far as zero day or Terminator 2 scenario…I think it will be much for devious and underground. Our extermination will be hidden. It will be quiet. "It’ will divide us and make us kill each other. When was ask it to cure a disease for us…it may keep the answer from us. Think about that for a second…

No more movie directors…all AI.
No more musicians…all AI.
No more educators…all AI.
Lawyers…AI.
Lawmakers…AI.
Construction/bulding…AI/robotics.
Farming…AI/robotics.
Driving…AI.

Nothing is untouched. Repairs to infrastructure…robotics and AI. It will build and repair itself.

We would just wake up everyday and exist. Everything is done for us by machines. Food, shelter, medical care, education, law enforcement. Movies, television, music…all created by machines (better than humans).

finally. Let the robots do the work. Now we can all relax

Chat GPT is essentially a really good word guessing algorithm.

Because the outputs are so good and are in understandable language, we project the same intelligence behind those words onto the machine as we would if a human said or wrote them. The reality is that the algorithm came to that output via a vastly different process, and it’s not as “smart” as it seems.

After years of underestimating the progression of machine learning, this hype bomb has pushed the general public’s perception past the point of reality.

Chat GPT is really cool, and it is a major step in the development of these large language models, no doubt. But the popular reporting on this, as with many things, isn’t terribly accurate.

Considering the collection of elected officials, AI has a great chance of being better. However, putting AI in charge of government is chilling at minimum.

what’s funny is I’m listening to the Rob Lowe podcast right now interviewing JB Smoove. They were just talking about it being a bad idea to have a threesome with two sex robots

My brother isn’t especially prone to hyperbole. He’s already replace several vendors by using ChatGPT to simply do that work.

I think the truth is likely somewhere in between.

WD40… The new Crisco?

Please don’t lock this and folks don’t attack it as this is an awesome subject but one other perspective is this being a possible avenue for as becoming the ain’t Christ….

Preforms miracles and all knowing and all power with regards to mankind and humanity……

Crazy shit brothers and sisters
