“Detroit is a hot ticket,” said Jeff Goodman, CEO of Ticket Smarter. "They’re a damn good team, and it’s being reflected in the demand. It’s not always the case.

“Three-hundred-dollar get-ins and those kind of average prices, those are higher than Kansas City.” …

If Lions fans are hoping to get to a game this season at reasonable prices, this Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Ford Field appears to be the last chance. According to Ticket Smarter, a ticket broker out of Overland Park, Kansas, the get-in price for Sunday on the secondary market was $173, as of earlier this week, and the average price was $554. Prices for the remaining four games at Ford Field skyrocket after that, with the Nov. 28 Thanksgiving Day game against the Bears boasting a get-in price of $391 and an average price of $891.

According to a spokesperson for Vivid Seats, after the Lions beat the Rams in overtime in the opener on Sept. 8, site traffic to the company’s Lions page spiked 226%; after the road win over the Packers on Nov. 3, it spiked again; and after the comeback road win over the Houston Texans last Sunday, it spiked 168%.

According to Vivid Seats, the Lions are the eighth-most in-demand ticket in the NFL for 2024, with an average home ticket price of $307 ― a price that’s 61% higher than in 2023 ― behind the Las Vegas Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Packers and San Francisco 49ers. That ranking and average ticket price are expected to rise as the season ― and the Lions’ success ― continues.

I am now NOT going to the Thanksgiving game because of how expensive the tickets are!

The ticket prices, especially in the secondary market, are madness. Anyone who would plunk down a thousand dollars for a regular season game is insane. If there is 11 minutes of action in an average NFL game, it is costing almost $5,500 an hour ($90 / minute) to watch actual game play. I guess as long as there’s the market for it, there’s not much more for me to say. I would have a very hard time justifying that kind of cash. Maybe for the Super Bowl, but I know that’s a pipe dream at that price. I would much rather invest that money. I would much rather watch the game on TV and add that money to my kid’s inheritance. To each their own I guess.

IF you are going to buy, I suggest doing so as soon as the schedule is announced and the tickets have gone on sale. My tickets that were well above face value for the Colts have more than doubled, in fact they are close to triple.

The stub hubs of the world are scandalous. They are in some serious need of oversight IMO. Platforms have significant degrees of fraud and their markups are far beyond their value added.

Yes, but also, remember buying tickets on Craigslist?

I looked into going to the Indy game a couple weeks ago. With taxes, $300 minimum. Hard pass. Looks like that was a steal now.

"That’s just business " cracks me up

Billionaires own the business. They surely can raise prices but as billionaires
I wouldn’t say that they automatically have to raise prices.

they can charge whatever they want

It’s not like they purposely kept prices down by fielding a bad team as the design. They didn’t tell us they were going cheap on
Coordinators. They sold us matt Stafford was the X factor.

I mean, that’s how business works… You have a premium product, you can charge a premium price. I don’t see it as a “billionaires” doing what they want issue… It’s the free market at work. If it’s too much, they won’t sell, but they will bc this fan base has been starved for so long.

The cost of eggs tho !

Now I don’t know if the Ford Hamp Firestones are check to check but if they’re independently wealthy it’s a business decision to charge whatever but it’s not a law

Arizona Ice Tea has said they won’t change the .99 cent price even though they could

How do you think those added billions change the Walton’s family’s life ? See below

The heirs to the Walmart fortune have grown their wealth by 66% since last year to a record $432 billion as of December 5, meaning they’ve regained the No.1 spot on Bloomberg’s annual list of the world’s richest families.i

I could charge substantially more for rooms for my Ducks home football game regulars than I do. But I’ve known the regulars for 13 years and their loyalty deserves some acknowledgment and loyalty in return.

I agree with you that “business” isn’t some monolith. The Lions are making a choice here. That is their prerogative but it’s a bit much for some to act like it’s anti-capitalist to feel a bit of ick over blue collar fans that showed up for 3 win seasons being forced out.

So while I think this is entirely predictable I also find it to be disappointing and unfortunate.

Lions tickets are the most expensive in the league despite their box office price being average… They’re leaving money on the table bc clearly fans are willing to pay those prices. So either people/corporations that buy season tickets to resell make the money, or the team does… I’d rather the team make the money. Either way, the average fan who paid to see the 3 win teams aren’t getting priced out by billionaires… They’re being priced out by fans with more expendable cash.

From the stories I read online most fans that are complaining were attending all games but now will be subsidizing by selling some on the secondary market. So these raises are going to facilitate that type of behavior.

This happened in Eugene during the Chip Kelly era with tickets nearly 3x’ing over the course of about six years. But they’ve had no problem selling out and neither will the Lions.

So I do understand the franchises point of view. I just don’t happen to love the optics and feel for loyal fans and them having to process the fact that their loyalty simply doesn’t matter to the franchise.

Whoa whoa whoa, why the ■■■■ would anyone sell their thanksgiving game tickets?! I mean the halftime shows alone are worth twice the price of admission!

Are You Kidding Season 3 GIF by The Real Bros of Simi Valley

Why would you rather the team made the money than your neighbor who is a nice neighbor and sells the bills game to help pay for being able to attend the rest ?

How many tickets do you think have been sold each week on resale market ? Are you thinking that the regular season ticket holders don’t really go to games and just sell
Their tickets for the mark up ?

And then is that due to cost of ticket and the fan trying to pay for it
Or is it because the fan is getting offered too good to turn down money for the bills game ?
