Run support matters not.
Skubal will be looking to be the highest paid pitcher of all-time, regardless of whether or not the team he is signing with provides him run support.
It’s really that simple.

Must be a policy to swing at the first pitch whenever the game is on the line. Could have chased Brown out of the game with a few more pitches.
We do have the best record in the American league.
On a positive note, Colt Keith is really starting to look like a gem. The guy works the count, he has a good eye at the plate and doesn’t mind taking a strike.
I agree and in that case we have no chance of signing him. I’d actually look to deal him either in the off season if you can get the package you want, or during the trade deadline. I think you can potentially get more in the off season than at the trade deadline, but I’d explore both.
Skubal wouldn’t last an entire game as an NFL TE…lmfao
He has 1 more year of arbitration right? Wouldnt we see where we are next trade deadline before really pushing that conversation?
Yes, but the problem is you would get less at the trade deadline because Skubal is essentially a rental for half a season. If Detroit honestly believes they have either zero chance or zero intention of signing him, you look to maximize his trade value—which I think would be at the off season.
Because he gets 4.75 runs/game this year, and the Tigers are 18-6 in his starts this year, so you are working on a false assumption?
2 potential Cy Young’s battling hard to lower those era’s.
4.75 is well above average. Fried get 6.5 and Yamamoto gets 2.75 from thr Yankees and Dodgers, and are the top and bottom, so Skub is near median as well.
Of course I am. It’s out of frustration that he’s pitching his ass off and may get a ND. That and a great pitcher will be lost to one of those $400M payroll teams after next year.
“Will be”.
Ok.
I mean the Tigers haven’t scored any runs for Skubal tonight, true. But also, they have saved one run for him too.
I would sacrifice the potential return for a world series… would you sacrifice a world series to get the return? That may be the trade off.
He is so ■■■■■■■ good man.
They said the under was a good bet, was 7, lowest of the night.
Ya this is a pitchers duel, that knuckle curve from hunter is filthy… hate that our guys cant avoid swinging at the first pitch etc but its a good game and the astros arent bad.
What i dont understand is.the desire to trade away your ace to get a return if you have a shot at the chip
We gonna get this King guy
Ort in the Astros pen looks like he should be pitching for the Blue Jays
