If Detroit wants a chance at a ship next year, they need some better hitters on this team. We’ve said it numerous times that we have too many AAAA hitters on this team. I’m not opposed to signing a couple good FAs next year and go all in in 2026–but that’s not Harris and Illitch style. They don’t make a big splash in FA—they pick around the edges. Plus, what about Gleyber Torres? He’s a FA next year. Do you think Detroit is going to pay up for him?
IIRC Bols was at the Dr’s or hospital today for a review of his back. Been a long ass day for me but I seem to recall a statement somewhere on the board about that.

He dabbles at the edges because of what is coming up and doesn’t want to block them by signing a long term guy.
Torres is going to more than 3yrs and he is at a position where the top prospects there will be up no later than 2027 but more likely sometime next year.
They still need a 3rd baseman and they made a play for Bregman but he chose the smaller park in Fenway. Made sense for him plus he has a relationship with their manager and another player there was/is a close friend.
Reality is rt now they need a 3rd baseman and a SS for next season, especially 3rd unless they are penciling Keith in there full time.

You don’t, but umps can check a call any time they want, and I have never seen one say no to reviewing a play in the 8th inning and beyond.
