Bally Sports dropping all of their MLB teams except for Atlanta Braves

Bally Sports dropping all of their MLB teams except for Atlanta Braves
Full article at link.
I heard a little bit about this yesterday as the news broke on MLB radio. MLB lawyers apparently were stunned by this news, had no idea it was coming. No idea where this going for the Tigers but hopefully it eliminates blackout rules in Michigan.

Diamond Sports Group made the surprising move during a court hearing for its Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to reports from ESPN and the Athletic.

Bally Sports carried games for 12 teams this past season. ESPN reports that the contracts with the Cleveland Guardians, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers expired this year.

The following seven teams will have to negotiate a new contract or find a new provider: Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Rays.

At this time, the deal with the Atlanta Braves has not been impacted. A spokesperson for the Braves said the organization does not have a comment at this time.

The Athletic reports that MLB was blindsided in court by the decision.

I would Bally would just drop off the face of the earth

There was alot of chatter about Amazon buying them out, and carrying all the baseball games. I wonder where that stands?

And if not Amazon, I wonder who will carry our games, and how it will affect our payroll?

They mentioned Amazon, Apple TV and others along with MLB . tv picking up each teams games and eliminating blackouts. To be clear this was two hosts on the MLB channel.

I would like it if the MLB channel got our contract.

I’ll be pissed if I have to pay for yet another streaming service to watch my team.

Bally is the absolute worst piece of trash app that I’ve ever had. Hopefully Amazon makes the move, I feel like they would provide a good product

Well, as one who doesn’t live in Michigan, selfishly, I just don’t them to take away the MLB.tv option for me…it’s been great.

This is the answer.

MLB Network, MLBTV app, MiLB TV and MLB RSNs all under the MLB Media umbrella. Separate business units.

NBC does this, as do all the major networks.

Go hire a Big Time Media Guy from one of them. Like whoever ran NBC Sports, Turner Sports etc.

You want Amazon involved? Great! Let them bid on a games package like they just paid the NBA for. Ditto whoever else wants a piece…eventually.

But get those RSNs stabilized. STAT. Bally is a shitshow performing on top of a flaming dumpster in the middle of a Sharknado

Maybe they could hire Pettiti, he has network experience and the B1G could find a qualified commissioner.

This year was too good to be true for me.

I don’t live in Michigan, but used a friend’s Michigan address to get every Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons game on Bally. Not to mention non-priime time Lions games. Only reason I started watching the Tigers, it was a god send.

I can’t afford Live TV service PLUS MLB, NBA, NFL plus Hockey channels.

Less revenue for these teams. Wait and see what Detroit does/ends up with.

I travel for work a couple of nights per week and got HULU live so I could watch tv on the road on an iPad. Unfortunately HULU made it so you had to connect to your WIFI like once a month or it wouldn’t work on your device. Well, I wasn’t great at putting it on my schedule and got locked out a few times. Pissed me off.

So you pay 20 bucks a month directly to MLB, which is what it cost for Bally, except you will no longer get the Pistons and Redwings included in that price.

BTW, Hulu is not the serice I subscribe to.
Message me if you want to find an alternative.

Fanduel and Bally now have some type of partnership going forward. Tigers were dropped prior so not sure if they renogiate or find another option.
