It helped that the game was on a Thursday this time. So maybe we should get an asterisk?
[sarcasm…]
So all those questionable plays and PI calls late in the game worked like a charm.
This was not because America wanted to see the Chicago Bears play.
When looking at the highest rated games over the last 2 years, one team stands out as a clear…and new…ratings bonanza. There is a reason why NBC tries to get us whenever they can. People questioned why “the Lions” got the Thursday opener vs the Chiefs last year. We did not fit the typical profile of the team that gets to play the champs in that game. The Thursday opener is technically part of the NBC Sunday Night package, its not “sold” to networks as part of the regular Thursday package. NBC ended 2022 with a ratings boom with the Lions sending the Packers…packing…in Aaron Rodgers final game as a Packer. Then we opened up the next season on NBC in the opener. Then NBC was able to land several Lions playoffs games, including the NFC Championship that set ratings on fire.
We suffered alone. But the world is watching us rise from the ashes.
I mean… What are the other options during that time? Population grows, viewership grows
