That trade now looks like a very smart move. Now they can franchise tag their best CB.
If I recall correctly the Bears had the most amount of cap space going into next year.
Yep. First time I have ever seen a move by that GM and thought it was a good one.
They’re going to have two top draft picks next summer as well, and they’re gettinf a franchise QB and potentially WR. Future could be bright for that franchise.
Well poles got it done atleast
Good move, hate to say it
If they draft a QB they’ll get something for Fields too
Can’t lie. That’s a damned good move. He’s not an All-Pro. But he can get you double digit sacks and is good vs the run. Can’t wait to watch the Sweat/Sewell battles.
Yowza, that’s a big contract. More per year than Crosby, Von Miller, Leonard Williams, Hendrickson, Armstead, etc… and pretty much the exact same as Garrett. Only Bosa makes substantially more.
I suppose they had to pay him that much to get him to sign now after saying he intended to take his time.
Quality DEs are getting REAL expensive.
So important to get one in the draft if at all possible.
right - a heck of alot guaranteed too
I don’t know about “very smart” but 18m per does seem very fair. It’s certainly not a Claypool type of move.
Sweat’s been very solid, but is he really a $24.5M a year player when he’s never had double digit sacks in four prior seasons?
Looks to me like a major overpay to justify trading what will be a high round 2 pick in the 2024 draft.
?? Isn’t it 24.5M/year though?
Meh…it’s the Bears version of Damian Woody. Just wanted to get paid…winning.,not so much.
18 per year is only the guaranteed money 72mil
It reminds me of the Trey Flowers overpay, though from my distant perch, Sweat has more juice and less character and consistency. This signing makes me think Chicago is moving deck chairs on the Titanic. That pleases me. Bwa-ha-ha…
Meh, they could have signed him in March without giving up the high 2nd rounder. Nobody was going to outbid them.
Much rather give a second rounder to Brad and let him get it done for pennies on the dollar. Just like he did with drafting Laporta and jettisoning Hock.
Poles is trying to make it look like he knows what he’s doing. I’m still not convinced. This is the easy button way of doing it.
They spent a ton of money on off ball linebackers which didn’t help the D at all.
Sweat may help though as he actually plays a premium position in a pass heavy league. Pass rush is really the key to good Defense.
Huge difference for Sweat now though. He was on a loaded Dline before. Now he’s gonna be getting a lot more attention and doubles without 2 dominating DTs like the Foreskins had.
Haven’t seen him play a down with this team and staff yet and they pulled the trigger?
A reaction to everyone laughing at the Bears for the trade in the first place.
Not how the Villain rolls, that’s for sure.
