Ben Johnson: Bears starters will play tonight

Unless they are banking on only minor injuries and then they get more time to recover. Still pretty reckless, though.

Watching the Chiefs broadcast, they brought up that the field and game conditions against the Seahawks were miserable, it was pouring for the game, so they didn’t get to work very hard for that game. In addition, the Chiefs have to travel to Brazil for their first game, so that practice week is going to get chopped up. This game was a way for them to get a bit of practice for the starters against the Bears starters.

Chiefs usually play some in the preseason. Pretty sure they don’t do joint practice times either. But yea, couldn’t imagine getting one of their future HOFers injured in a preseason game!

They’ve played them in game 2. The Chiefs played Mahomes and Kelce against the Lions last year at Arrowhead, I was at that game. They do not do the joint practices.

I get the fear of injuries, but I’d love to see our starters for 2 series. Knock the rust off a bit

Bagent does look good. During the Chiefs broadcast, not kidding, Trent Green (former Chiefs QB) mentioned that he felt that Bagent should have been given a shot at the starting job last year. He knows the job was going to be Caleb’s, but Bagent played better.

I still think there is a decent shot that Bagent does start a game or two by the end of the year. He fits Ben’s system and timing a lot better. He stands in there and takes hits to make throws. That’s a must for Ben’s system.

Wow…interesting.
Bears announcers were talking about the obvious culture change and organized feel. Everyone has bought in.

I think Johnson likes Bagent better.

Until they start losing then no one had bought in.

I thought one of the most attractive things, to Ben, of the Bears job was that he could “fix” Williams.

I think Chicago will be decent. I also fear Minny is actually going to be good again, they really beefed up that Oline, and the Pack will maintain. Our division will just beat the crap out of each other. But I do think we have the most talent though. And the best coach obviously

Not sure the Bears needed to extend an extremely popular backup QB behind Caleb. Then you have Poles on TV talking about Bagent being the hardest worker on the team. I just think Caleb is pretty fragile and I think week 1 he’s gonna have issues with Minnesotas defense. Then week 2 in Detroit to meet Hutchinson. Gonna be a lot of people screaming to start Bagent by week 3. Not sure how Caleb deals with it.

Well that’s totally inaccurate. Calab and Ben have looked much better then your story . You guys keep hating on these 2 constantly, you may end up having to pull your foot out of your mouth.

There’s already bears fans wanting Bagent to get a shot after last nights preseason game. Disagree with it all you want but not sure how MY OPINION is “totally inaccurate”? Bagent has an almost cult like following in Chicago and even the Players wanted him starting last year. I’ve said all along I think Caleb has talent and I know Ben can coach…..but just like when he was coming out I wasn’t sold on him as the “generational” talent that he was made out to be.

Backup QBs are always the most popular players on bad teams

I think it’s hard right now to say “these guys are doing the smart thing,” and “those guys are being stupid.” The fact is we’ve gone from a tried and true formula when there were 16 games and 4 preseason games, to the new 17 game season reality where the popularity of joint practices with other teams is skyrocketing. Did “we” do it right last year, when we ended up dragging our JV defense into our win or go home game? Hard to say with our walking wounded we always seem to be carrying around that we’re being the smart ones.

With Ben it’s probably that he is wanting to see something that he needs a longer look at. Maybe if his opponent is echoing the same thing, perhaps it’s something the two teams discussed? Do you risk your starters not being prepared for live bullets on day one because they’ve been living in shells and shorts? Do you harden guys by the “you have to live hard to be hard” mantra and subject guys to injury? I just think everyone is trying to figure out the optimum way of getting guys ready for game one - and the rigors of the season and the new formula isn’t baked enough yet for league-wide adoption like it used to be.

Hes the first QB they have resigned since 2014. Ben and Poles love him. Hell after seeing his press conference I like him lol.
