Benjamin Solak top-40 prospects

He’s much bigger and stronger than Sapp, though not as quick or athletic. People forget but at the combine Sapp was 6’1, 281. I think he eventually got up to around 300 but he was always small for a DT.

Suh was the best defensive player I’ve ever seen in college (been watching since the late 80s), Sapp is the only who compared. Carter isn’t in the same universe. Carter is a pocket disruptor, Suh was a game wrecker.

With that said, these comps are rarely based on how good the player will be but is more of a stylistic comparison. I could see a similar style to Suh but Suh had next level motor and violence and was in better shape, guy was built like a tank not a fridge.

I think the Suh comps come around because of the sheer man strength. Both guys rag doll other 300 pound men as if they were children. Suh was stronger but Carter might be the next strongest guy I’ve evaluated.

But Carter was never the game-wrecker Suh was his last year of college. Not only was he the best defensive player I’ve ever seen in college as well, he might be the most dominant player at any position. I probably have Barry and Larry Fitzgerald ahead of him, but for absolute wtf levels of dominance, Suh’s is almost in a class of his own.

And honestly I was a little disappointed by his pro career. He was good but nowhere near as dominant as he had been in college.

I’d say there was untapped potential due to his stubbornness.

Stubbornness and being motivated by the wrong things, I’d say.

Looks like ole Ben waited until the last minute to put this together, to beat a deadline.

He died while Reggie was still an Eagle. Reggie was crushed and it may have been part of the reason he left. Though Buddy being fired probably didn’t help.

That Bud Carson led 1991 defense was the greatest I’ve ever seen. Football Outsiders actually has it ranked as the best.

The irony is that I put the comp out there like a year ago well before the racing incident. It’s ironic bc Jerome Brown died at 27 (along with his nephew) when he was racing his Corvette way too fast.

The reason for the comp is Brown was about the same size but like Carter had freaky power to go with his quickness. The difference is that Brown was an Alpha Male with leadership coming out of his …

Brown was the guy that organized the Canes to come out in army fatigues prior to losing to Penn State in the '87 Fiesta Bowl. I think he guaranteed victory and then they lost to the D.J. Dozier and Shane Conlan led Penn St. team.

Brown would have been one of the great DTs of all time had he not died so young.

Oh and yes I really do like old timey comps

If you want to get an idea of what kind of player he was.

Thanks for the info…thats kinda trippy the racing thing. Damn

He also slid to 9 bc of character concerns of sorts. For him it was bc he was just too damn brash for 1987.

If he’s Jerome Brown then we should reap the benefit

But Suh didn’t have Carter’s agility though. There are reps where Carter is in a gap and it’s almost like he teleports two gaps over. He’s like a mix of Sub and Gerald McCoy who went with the next pick.

It may sound crazy but I think Carter’s upside is actually higher than Suh’s was. Far lower floor of course.

I can see that, Suh was far more about strength than anything else, whereas Carter combines strength and Quinnen-esque quicks. Just not to the level Suh did with strength alone. But yeah what you could get from Carter is all-time great stuff.

They’re stealing my comp now

I always find it ironic when a top prospect is compared to a guy who barely got drafted.
