Only been watching the lions for 30 years so have only really seen the two we have now and Glover Quinn. Saw a little of Blades.

Kerby is better than Quinn ever was, and I loved Quinn. Branch is arguably a top 3 safety in the NFL today and is on his way to a HOF career.

Personally, I thought Kerby and Branch are the best two Safeties I’ve ever seen in a Lions uniform. I just thought I would throw out a poll to see if you guys thought the same. Crazy that we have, imo, the best two at the same time.

Ummm, best Modern Era, as I hope you know the Lions already have not one, not two but THREE safeties in the Hall of Fame. None of which are on that list.

The early 90s tandem of White and Blades was very good. The tandem we have now is better.

Dick Night Train Lane might want a word with the pole creator and may God have mercy on your soul.

The NFL literally had to make rules to combat how he tackled.

Now to be fair he was maybe more a corner, but also is still 4th all time in the NFL with INTs and still holds rookie INT record.

To be honest, I was just going off my own memory from the late 70s.

I think the only person alive to have seen dick night train lane on this board was @Bols so I omitted him. But I always saw him more as a corner than a safety. He’s probably spinning in his grave over this Branch suspension. Also, I tried to keep it to players most of us may have seen.

Oh it has been awhile since I watched a highlight reel for Mr. Lane and holy crap. I had forgotten what a savage game this used to be.

I would agree that he would have lasted about 2 quarters for the whole season by today’s rules. My goodness. And if he did not knock you out he mugged you. Or maybe tried to choke you to death.

They seemed to not even want to tackle you. They wanted to keep you up so they could punch and claw at you :smiling_face_with_horns:

The poll needs to be expanded to include Bracy Walker, Brock Marion, Terrence Holt and Stuart Schweigert!

In all seriousness, Louis Delmas deserves an honorable mention. Injuries derailed his career. But he was one of the best Lion safeties I have ever seen.

You forgot Daniel Bullocks…he helped us achieve history!

I thought about him, but injuries did limit his effectiveness. He was real good for a couple of years there though. ■■■■ it, honorable mention.

Tandem: Branch/Joseph

But Carrier/Schultz combo was nice for a minute

Did Ron Rice ever play with Blades?

Did Quin and Delmas suit up together for a year?

When was the always injured 4th rd safety from Purdue or nearby?.

Night Trane Lane was a corner and didn’t play as many games with us as with the Cardinals, so IMO he is a Cardinal as a HoF. 68 games with Cards, 66 w Detroit. More starts too.

The math is mathing 134%.

GQ was a ball hawk and great tackler. Super smart. He and Slay were pretty special. So I gave love to him. I think Kerby and Branch are already the best ever but GQ is up there.
