Not Emmitt Smith nor Eric Dickerson: Eagles star Saquon Barkley picks the greatest RB in NFL history

In a recent interview on the latest ‘Hot Ones‘ episode, the current Super Bowl champion revealed that, in his opinion, the best running back in NFL history is one of the legends of the Detroit Lions, Barry Sanders.

“Man, Barry’s my guy. He’s my favorite running back of all time,” Barkley said. “When I was a little kid, I used to wear number 20, and I used to run around and reverse the field and they used to call me, ‘Little Barry.’ At this time, I went to my dad and I’m like, ‘Who are they talking about?’ He made me sit down and go on YouTube, and that’s when I kind of fell in love with Barry Sanders as a running back.”

I always liked that Barkles kid.
Funny enough, I was thinking earlier today how Barkley or Reggie Bush were the two best RB’s I’d ever seen in college. I was less then 8 years old during Barry’s OSU days.

broke 34 NCAA records. In the years since, offense has exploded in the college game, while the pace has quickened. And yet, most of Sanders’ FBS records remain intact.

I think its clear that Saquon is demanding a trade to the Lions, where he will rework his contract to a team friendly deal. That helps explain why Gibbs changed his number to 0. Gibbs was freeing up #26, which means he has already been informed.

I missed the news about all the number changes, sucks for the Jah #26 jersey owners. Particularly if you bought a rookie jersey AND one last year for the new style.

Do players now take a decent cut from sales of their own jerseys? If so, this would seem to encourage the more popular players to change numbers frequently.

Yes, they get a cut. But if they change numbers, they have to pay the Lions and the NFL for every single unbought jersey, so it’s not as lucrative as you’d think.

Last year (I think), someone kept their number because changing it was going to cost him 1.5 mil in unbought jerseys. That’s quite the chunk of change compared to whatever the % tally is for new jerseys.

For example, let’s say they get a 5% cut from jersey sales. 5% of $200 is $10. Takes a lot of $10 bills to even get close to 1.5 mil.

I was literally 8 years old and I saw a few Barry games on ESPN at OK State. You know I was raised in a Cowboys/Lions home and when Barry got to the Lions I leaned heavy on Lions (unbeknownst to my dear-sweet mother).

Yea it may have been staged but still cracks me up that gif… :joy:

Oh, no doubt. I 100% agree. The fact that it’s “potentially” staged takes nothing away from the entertainment value.
