If James Cook is worth $15 Million per season, what’s Jahmyr Gibbs going to be worth a couple years down the road?
I want a lot of things…doesn’t mean I am getting any of them.
He is not worth 15M per year. The issue with him is that he is not a huge HR threat. IMO for a RB to get that kind of money they have to have the ability to break a big run to the house. Additionally, in todays NFL they also need to be a pass catcher.
Barkley is a great example.
Gibbs is another one.
Henry is almost pure runner and he is maybe worth that
But hey who knows. Maybe the market is changing. I just do not see Cook as special. And truth be told 1,000 yard rusher with a 17 game season does not move the needle. You need to be around 1400-1500 to get me excited.
Good Luck with that.

. I want $15 million a year too
This is what some is trying to say, with a extra 35 million contract for a Garret or Crosby . We got guys to pay our selfs , no way I want to loose Jah
People will clown on this take but tbh
Thats how much Gabe Davis makes, and cook is absolutely better than him
Hes also entering a contract year after arguably his best campaign and hes 26
The market for RBs isnt great but i do think hes in line for a big payday (Atleast 10 to 11 mill range per year)
So the guy who wasn’t even on the field for his teams most important drive of the year, wants to be the highest paid rb?
The RB market is going to correct itself some this year……but not that much lol.
This is definitely part of the issue.
But I do find it interesting that a slot merchant (ARSB) is paid 30M a year and a RB is worth tops 14-15M a year. This is where the whole collective bargaining agreement kind of screws RBs because they have one of the shortest life spans of any players.
And I am not picking a side or really have any opinion on how much anyone makes. You cut the best deal for you regardless of what anyone else is making. But also if you cut a deal and find out you are paid the least…well that is the deal you cut.
The NFL is a weird place. Because I think many people hear professional athlete and think someone is rich. When I would guess about maybe 60-70% have to have jobs lined up after football. I would guess there is some really good data available on this that the NFL likely does not want the public to truly know.
With the projected new cap $15M/year is only gonna take up 5% of the cap.
In 2019, Gurley’s $14.4M/year contract was just shy of 8% of the cap.
Running back contracts are still going down.
Well I guess I am always struggling with the idea there are about 70 dudes you end up paying.
But of course 53 main ones kind of.
So needing at least 22 dudes means you can not even think about paying all starters 5%
Especially when the QB is like 15-18%
I would say $10-12 M per year is closer—if he’s lucky. Dude barely ran for a thousand yards and only had 6 games where he had more than 15 carries.
They need to use him more. Maybe worried about durability. Had just under 1300 total yards and 18 tds…but only played 48 percent of the snaps. He is definitely talented.
That’s what I think as well.
Bills will probably be drafting his replacement.
Good luck to him

I know everyone is saying this is silly, but $15m is WR2 money, and after this season with the success RBs have had that’s really not a lot of money to pay to have a good guy running the ball.
And now we need to re-open the discussion on max contracts and max percentage any 1 player can have of the salary cap…
It is funny to me because I think clearly in the NFL their are players being under paid based on performance and such. And then in the NBA a crap 1 dimensional bench guy is making 15M a year…while I am not a fan of the NBA or basketball really anymore and I love the NFL and football. If my kid was equally talented in both and had a chance to make the pros I for sure would push him towards Basketball. The money is silly. And for that matter, be a middling left handed relief pitcher in MLB and call me about that money.
The NFL and NHL are the 2 most physical sports and both struggle to pay the middling payers anything like what happened in the NBA and MLB.
I’d push kids towards the PGA
If I’m the 43 best golfer, I’m still making plus 400,000 and it’s a no contact sport!! ![]()
