Brad Holmes: Same approach at EDGE as last year

Have a feeling this should be a fun thread!

atleast he says their addressing it…

question is to what extent

Honestly, Oline and health are more important, and we will have a glaring hole at the WILL spot too

Whether they want to or not, the DEs are Hutch and Wingo in the room, that’s it. They will have to add to the room. Just hope it’s the right moves. There’s some good DE veterans on the market this year.

Edge would have been totally fine had Levi stayed healthy and been our 5T

I didn’t like his David Montgomery answer.

It was reported that Brad has reached out to the Raiders multiple regarding Crosby. I think if he is available Brad is going to be in the mix.

Sounds like they are going to cut/trade him. I don’t like it. He’s a big part of the team and is a very good player. He embodies everything that Dan Campbell wants this team to be. Lions would be better off keeping Monty.

Levi played 673 snaps on defense and 54 on special teams over 17 games in 2024, while missing one game. His back was healed. It’s likely that the medical examine prior to signing his 2025 overlooked or minimized the ACL issue. But his back aced the stress test that each season demands.

Exactly. I know that it sounds silly now to have expected Levi to be healthy but when we re-upped him there was cautious optimism that the back was behind him. And it may still be. ACL’s happen.

Some people are just prone to injuries. Also not someone I’d be counting on to produce on the edge with career totals of 68 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 FF in 4 years. “Possible” PS depth piece. We need someone who’s going to take the pressure off of hutch on the opposite side.

So did Jamaal and everyone wanted him to stick around at all costs. Monty will be replaced with relative ease

Yeah Monty is a much better back than Jamal. Laughable comparison.

Yeah it reminds me of someone talking about how great Jerry Jones is…. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Let’s all keep in mind…..

he wasn’t going to stand at the podium and tell the entire league that he planned to sign Hendrickson, trade for Maxx, or even draft an edge in the top 2 rounds.

That’s a fair question…..

Rinse and repeat

No it’s not and we will see when he leaves us. He’s not going to be anything special at all.

RBs can basically be put into 4 tiers and a whole lot of them are going to be in tier 3. There are the truly special ones, probably 7-8 max. Then another 7-8 who are capable of being feature backs. Then there a shitload that can be interchangeable after that. You need 2 of them to both be productive to have a successful running game. Guys like Monty, Swift, Hubbard, Dowdle, Harvey, Warren, Allgeier, among a ton others, need a running mate.

Monty will leave, be a 50/50 split guy who has 7-800 total yards and a handful of touchdowns at best. The next guy we bring in will be as productive as Monty. Whether that’s a FA or day 3 guy.

RB20 all the way to ~RB50 are interchangeable. They will all be productive if you have a + offensive line.

Ty Johnson and Ray Davis appear to be excellent RBs running behind the Bills OLine. They are able to rest Cook so much because the drop off is minimal running a couple of outside top 50 guys. There’s a reason RB is considered to be among the least valued positions in the sport.

The problem is people are ignoring or not understanding what Brad is saying now or last year. He’s not going to tell the media anything they keep private obviously. But he’s telling you all there is no imaginary player. They dont have the 1st overall pick to grab whoever they want and teams may not want to trade or they may ask for too much. Then they’re on the clock and people think there’s some future HOF DE available to be picked when in actuality there isn’t and especially if its not a guy who fits.
