Brad looking for a DE, per Dianna Russini

I love how immediately everyone starts jumping to tier 1/2 guys. Highly doubt guys like Hendrickson or Crosby are the guys Brad is calling around for.

I’d hope he is calling and asking about anyone he feels can help the team. Why wouldn’t you ask about a top tier talent? I am not picking up the phone to call teams about bottom tier talent that can’t move the needle. If that’s all you want, may as well wait for Hassanien to get healthy and bring him back.

Because someone like Myles Garret would cost 300 first round picks, and we need to sign our own guys (Hutch, Branch, LaPorta, Gibbs) so thats a lot of money. Brad builds through the draft while bringing in guys like D.J. Reed. Tha salways how he does it. He said he won’t change his philosphy. And honestly, I wouldn’t want it.

So who is the DJ Reed of DE’s out there? Thats who I’m looking at.

Granderson is the 1st one who comes to mind.

Because we have a limited amount of assets, both in draft picks and cap space, and still a lot of guys left to sign? Because our current starting DEs are playing pretty well?

To me, it’s more likely that Brad is not expecting much from Davenport if/when he returns, knows Josh Paschal clearly has something going on and most likely won’t be back, and hasn’t been impressed with guys like O’Connor/Lacy/Wheat backing up the current main guys when they’re on the field? If you’re looking at upgrading at the DE position right now, do you think it’s more likely they’re trying to replace the guy on pace for 12.5 sacks, who sets the edge well, and costs next to nothing…or the career bubble players like Lacy, Wheat, and O’Connor who are backing them up?

Or maybe bring Van Noy back? Let him finish his career where it started? Not really our can-crushing type, but gets after the QB and can play some of Barnes’ spot too.

Yes. If I can find a player that is better than Muhammad, sure I take a look. Here’s the thing. I am not looking to replace Muhammad, or replace Hutch. I am looking to supplement them. I want this team as deep as possible. You want to know how the Eagles beat the ever loving shit out of the Chiefs? It was their DL was about 6 deep. They just rotated guys in and out endlessly, and KC could do nothing about it. Philly lost a few of those guys and their defense hasn’t been the same.

Guys like Lacy and Wheat are a dime a dozen. There’s a reason they got those guys off waivers. Pashcal is right next to Davenport in my eyes, they are guys that may be on the team but will never play for you.
I am not only looking at DE’s either. I’d be looking for a backup corner too, because even when our guys get back, there is no guarantee someone else won’t go down in the meantime. Safety? Hell yes, there is a massive dropoff from Kerby and Branch.
We don’t have big holes, but we do have some spots where we can improve our quality of depth. As far as the stars though, if you find a team out there that needs to get rid of a name player, you better make that phone call. At bare minimum, you can use that as leverage to go after a guy you really believe you had a chance at.

Want to know when the price for a player is the most expensive? When a team knows you need him. When that team knows you have different options, all of a sudden the price drops because they would rather get something than nothing.

I actually don’t disagree with anything you said. I just am not holding my breath on any addition of being the top tier. Similar to last year - it wasn’t Trey or Maxx or Garrett. It was ole’ Z. And we had a much bigger need. This is the same caliber player I expect to Brad to bring in if he makes a move. I’m sure Brad is exploring all of his options as he calls around, but my gut - based on how we’ve seen Brad operate in the past - refuses to let me think that any of the top tier guys are on the table for us.

I get it. For the record, none of us said go for Garrett. I said that wouldn’t be possible, and was saying the same thing for Maxx. I said I would’ve preferred Maxx over Garrett if I had my choice, due to Crosby’s success against Mahomes. I didn’t think Crosby’s recent extension could mean he could even be a Lion, but was corrected on that one by a better cap guy. :joy:

I would say Joey Bosa but Chargers are doing well.

Joey is in Buffalo now, but they are also fine.

Ok, but the Bills would be pissed. Bosa went to the Bills in the offseason. He hasn’t done much there either. They signed him to beef up the pass rush to contain guys like Mahomes, and now their run defense sucks.

Granderson and Chubb are both guys I think would fit what we need most. Also, I know we all love Hutch, but the dude also needs to be able to get to the sidelines for a break without forfeitting our pass rush.

Agreed

Think its prolly along the Granderson type of line or maybe Phillips (which i Doubt)

only big name i could see is Chubb tbh

Just a friendly reminder that we have two Edges that are performing like #1 Edges.

I am not trying to downplay what AQM has done for us, he was a ball of fire during the Ravens game. However, this is one of those deals where all sacks are not created equal. This sack came at the end of the game, when the Chiefs were already up 30-17 and were just running out the clock. I think AQM can be a great asset for the team, and I’d love to get him and Hutch some help and we can rotate between the 3, as well as have some injury depth.

That’s good.

Wait a minute … but you said …

I was just pointing out that while we are all about that sack, they can also be a bit of a misleading stat, as that sack was in that game. The pressure rate is more encouraging.

Cam Jordan is a guy who I think makes a ton of sense. Would cost a late round pick, his salary is low, and Dan knows him very well. He is old, but still playing well and we would only need 20-30 snaps a game from him.

Him and Jaelan Phillips are most likely IMO

Cost and risk vs reward.

Roger Mcreary has been a very good NB. I’d like him a lot .

Reed, Arnold, Amik, Mcreary, Fuller

I feel good about that CB room

Rock & Maddox DB/S

Branch, Kerby, Harper

Nice 10 DB unit
