Any discussion of nutty WRs would not be complete without Yupong, who blew up on the launching pad. What could have been? At least, BA and AB were briefly in flight.
Going to have to disagree. Aiyuk has much craziness to work on to get to the rarified air of Antonio Brown craziness.

BA craziness actually makes sense, he don’t want to be a niner and they refuse to release him. AB craziness still doesn’t make sense to this day.

That’s as nutty than that clown is. I’m sure if BA wants to pay back the $34M that the 49ers have paid him on his extension, that he hasn’t played a single game on, since he quit showing up last season, they’d gladly release the piece of garbage.
He doesn’t have to pay back anything. He has already made 48 million that’s probably closer to 30 million after taxes from that contract. It was the easiest financial decision a person could probably make as the niners basically just gave him money knowing he didn’t want to be there.

The Burfict thing is just a convenient way for people to wrap their heads around AB’s personality. The reality is that AB has an extreme personality and has always had an issue with authority. A teammate once said something like “AB treats every practice like its the Super Bowl. Its like he doesn’t have an OFF switch.” That was years before he “went nuts.” I am sure the accumulated CTE thru the years doesn’t help. But one hit did not suddenly flip a switch for Antonio Brown.
In high school AB was kicked out of the house and was homeless after an altercation with his step-dad. He was one of the best players in a talent rich Miami area, but his recruiting was shaky. Part of it was that he wanted to stay at QB, where he had always been dominant. At his size, there are not alot of schools that took him seriously as a QB at the next level. He was supposed to go to Florida State, but academic issues blew that up. He was then supposed to go to Alcorn State, but that fell apart because of “reasons.” He ended up at NC Tech Prep where he played QB. He had a combined 24 passing/rushing TD’s in only 5 games. That led to a scholarship to Florida International, where he never played a down because he had an altercation with a security guard before the season started.
As the story goes, AB finally accepted his fate as a full time WR and reached out to Butch Jones. As WR coach at Central Michigan, Butch heavily recruited AB as a WR. As a backstory, AB’s dad is a guy they call “Touchdown" Eddie Brown…a WR that went to college at Louisiana Tech, had a brief stop in the NFL and became one of the greatest players in Arena Football League history. Butch had recently took charge of Central Michigan as the head coach. Butch and the WR coach gave AB a chance to enroll at CMU and tryout as a walk-on WR. AB stood out immediately with his skillset, knowledge as a former QB and “err’day is Super Bowl Sunday" approach to the game (and life).
For anyone that has gotten this far, I will keep going. After a productive career at CMU (he averaged 101 catches per year in 3 seasons) he was drafted in the late 6th round by the Steelers to join a stacked WR room where most “small" late round picks would get buried in the numbers game and fade away. They had Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Antwaan Randle-El, Arnaz Battle and 3rd round pick Emmanuel Sanders. AB had a chip on his shoulder that kept growing, and he kept proving to people that he was as good as he thought he was. The very first time he touched the football in a real NFL game…he scored on an 89-yard kick return (reverse). Fast forward and the Steelers had decisions to make on contracts for their WRs. 1st round pick Mike Wallace contract ran out and the team forced him to play under a restricted free agent tag for $2.7M his final season with the team. Emmanuel Sanders contract ran out and he had a similar situation in his final season with the team. Meanwhile Antonio Brown received a 5 year extension while he still had a year left on his original contract. Emmanuel Sanders said that the Steelers were never serious about their negotiations with his agent. Sanders said at one point he spoke to Kevin Colbert about it personally, and Colbert responded “who do you think you are, Antonio Brown?”
If you consider AB’s extreme personality and issues with authority (that he always had), then follow his backstory, you get a better perspective. Late career AB was not the product of 1 hit by a Bengals LB. AB was always AB. But late career AB had years of top level production and also became the highest paid WR in NFL history…after the Burfict hit. This was for an organization that coddled him and a head coach in Mike Tomlin who famously allowed diva’s to grow into whomever they wanted to be…as long as they produced on the field.
